New Delhi, November 1: Former chairman of selection committee Dilip Vengsarkar gave a thumbs down to Test skipper Anil Kumble and said that he doesn't foresee the leg-spinner captaining the side after the on-going series against Australia.

Vengsarkar said though Kumble has rendered a yeoman service to the Indian cricket team, his poor form suggested he should quit.

"Kumble has not been performing since the last six to seven Tests. He has been a great servant for the country for the last 18 years but he has not done anything of note in the last few matches, his time is up now," Vengsarkar told a TV channel.

"Kumble looked completely off-color in the match and I don't see him captaining the side after the Nagpur Test," he added.

Vengsarkar felt that Kumble did not handle fellow leggie Amit Mishra properly in the third Test match.

"Mishra was bowling quite well and was getting good zip but still Jumbo under bowled him," Vengsarkar said.

Vensarkar's non-sense by K.Subbaraman on 03 Nov 2008

Even today Kumble as a bowler and gentleman is far superiror to Vengsarkar as selector. Vengy's tenure as Chief seelctor was a brief dark era of India Cricket.

Mr Vengsarkar take rest by Saket Gadkari on 03 Nov 2008

Mr Vengsarkar take rest you are no longer onh selection committee.Even if you were you have no right to comment on players who are far better than you were.

others need to follow kumble by rohit on 03 Nov 2008

i doubt kumble would have opted for retirement had he not got injured, any way his retirement is good, dravid, sachin, ganguly better retire soon

Vengsarkar by Ram on 02 Nov 2008

Pl ask Vengsarkar to shut up.He has had his time and its gone !.Let him retire to some ashram instead of projecting his negativity on the Indian Cricket side.Kumble will leave when he has to leave.A non performer like Vengsarkar has already outlived his welcome in the cricketing scence.

Idiot vengsarkar by Raviteja on 02 Nov 2008

Vengsarkar is an Idiot..He ruined every one's career..A better suggestion would be..Kumble should hand over captaincy to Dhoni. Kumble should play as a bowler only.He is so frustrated by doing both works.Dhoni remains cool in all situations.I think Kumble has still power to play international cricket.

Kumble/Dravid Must Retire by Sanjay Bhadkamkar on 02 Nov 2008

I fully agree with Deelip Vengasarkar but add one more name , Dravid in the list who should call it Day.This is the right time to give youngsters the chance they fully deseve.

Vengsarkar - Perfectual foot in the mouth by Shankar Shetty on 02 Nov 2008

This fellow Vengsarkar should shut uo during the ongoing series.

Young Players by Zain Siddiqui on 02 Nov 2008

Its really out of understanding as to why our old players Dravid, Kumble, Sachin are not opting to retire on thier own in a dignified way...they must give chance to new young players

He better Shutup by Mani on 02 Nov 2008

Dilip has played even after he was out of form for years !. He is not a Selector and let the players decide when they have to go. He extended his career and screwed Bhaskar Pillai and even Robin Singh. He has to shut up and sleep. Even greats like GRV, Kapil and Gavaskar are keeping quiet about Ganguly and Kumble amd Dilip is not even near their cailbre or record

dfdf by Baatul on 02 Nov 2008

Straight from the Colnel's mouth. How can the same team perform so aggressively agains the same opponent? Something's definitely wrong with the captain's strategy and leadership qualities.

Shut up Vengsarkar by C2 on 02 Nov 2008

I doubt that Dilip is acting to boost Aussie morale by downgrading Kumble, the Inidan capitain. His comments is that of grapes gone sour. He is unable to handle life after retirement as chief selector and in that jiffy wants seniors in the Indian team to retire and face the same retirement blues. Dilip should think as to how many tests he failed as player and for how long he was retained in the Indian team only bcos of his Indian connections. All the players today in the team are thousand times better than Dilip. Dilip should stop barking, else the world will consider him mad. Whose agenda is he pursuing every time he opens his mouth and asking only for Kumble's retirement? Does he have the guts to talk about Sachin. IF he is born to one father, he should use the same harsh words about Sachin.

Kumble's time is up, says Vengsarkar by Prasad on 02 Nov 2008

Its good if Kumble himself realises this. Most of our crickteers fail to understand that they should quit when they are at heir peak and not wait to be driven out. The list of crickteers includes Sachin Tendulkar who is now overstretching himself. He is in poor form and plays a knowck of 60/70 runs occasionaly and yet he says that he wants to play til the 2011 world cup. This is being plain greedy. He should quit in th interest of his own self. If he tries and sticks on he will be literally have to be thrown out of the Indian squadand some selection committee will have to take this bold decision.

Anil Kuimble by Rakesh Mohan on 02 Nov 2008

Mr dilip Balwant Vengsarkar was Chairman of selectors before the last 3 test Matches India has played. Would he justify, how Anil was allowed to play and lead the side f the Chairman of Selectors knew that Anil is not contributing more in last 2 years or was not as effective as he should be.

Glorious Cricket by Pradip Manchanda on 02 Nov 2008

Too right. Even the energy and urgency around the team during last two days has been nothing as was seen under Dhoni Dhamaka. Bring on Dhoni now.

kumble captiancy "always reactive " by dinesh on 02 Nov 2008

yes his time is up kumble knew , india had hit a winning combination , with out him , why did not he gracefully let dhoni captain the 3rd test and made himself unavalible for this test , with hid dhoni captiancy india would have definetly wraped up the seriesdinesh

Kumble by P K Dutta on 01 Nov 2008

Mr.Vengsarkar must keep his mouth shut. He unnecessarily hurts people, as a habit. Rather crude behaviour, I think.

Shut up Vengsarkar! by Sangi on 01 Nov 2008

Vengsarkar and his BIG mouth is like a constant dripping on a rainy day. Kumble has been a great cricketer who made all of us proud through his achievements. It's high time Vengsarkar learns to keep silent in matters concerening the senior cricketers.

Kumble should Quit - what a selfish act by Raj on 01 Nov 2008

I am a Kumble's ardent fan. However, Kumble has lost his touch and he is playing for himself as opposed to winning the game. Shewag and Mishra should have been given more overs. They bowled beter than Kumble. We are not here to hail Kumble's spirit for the game (in spite of his stitches) but to Win the game. We know, Kumble is a team spirited guy. However, it is time now and India's current position is because of Kumble's horrible captaincy. He should QUIT now. I agree with Veng.

Insulting by Vivek Joshi on 01 Nov 2008

VengSarkar has a bad habit of insulting senior players in public repeatedly. I never thought that he will go to this low level to remain in the news headlines. If he has any respect for players, then he should personally call the players and discuss. He can not just air the opinion of the selection committee in the public. It is highly unethical. He should understand that his time will be up some day. How will he feel if someone says that your time is up?

Keep mum!! by Vinodh on 01 Nov 2008

Mr.Vengsarkar what the hell were U doing when U was a Selector?? Cant U pls keep quiet now and do whatever U have to do..dont comment on the captain that too when the match is on!!! I really dont understand these ex-players and so called BCCI officials comment that too when the match is on....cant U guys keep Ur mouth shut till the series is over..rather than commenting when the match is on...crazy..i think gag order should not only be placed on players but on ex-players n administrators too..they are damaging the player's momentum.....something seems to be wrong with Maharasthra air!! huh
