London Kylie Minogue’s hit single 'Can’t Get You Out Of My Head' topped the tune of the Noughties on Saturday.

The song bagged the maximum votes in a poll of the most-played songs of the past decade, the Mirror reported.

The track had originally been turned down by both S Club 7 and Sophie Ellis-Bextor before Kylie used it.

Britney Spears’ Toxic came close second in the survey by PRS (Performing Right Society) For Music, the UK’s association of composers, songwriters and music publishers.

The lyrics for both the songs were penned by Cathy Dennis, who worked with Robert Davis on ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ and Henrik Jonback, Pontus Winnberg and Christian Karlsson on ‘Toxic’.

Robbie Williams’ biggest solo hit, ‘Angels’, was named the third most popular tune.

All the top three songs had bagged an Ivor Novello Award for Most Popular Song for the year they were released.

Scottish band Wet Wet Wet were at number six with their version of the Troggs’ ‘Love Is All Around’.

The 1994 hit was the soundtrack to ‘Four Weddings And A Funeral’ and spent 15 weeks at the top of the UK charts.

PRS, which collects royalties on behalf of songwriters and composers, searched into its records to work out which songs have been played and performed the most over the past 10 years.

Among them, the top five altogether have been played more than 875 million times over the decade.

The chart is based on airplay and live covers of the songs.

Guy Fletcher, PRS for Music chairman, said that the list contains all the classic songs of the Noughties.

“These are all classic songs of the Noughties and ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ is one of Kylie’s all-time greatest hits,” Fletcher said.

“The writing talent behind this top five includes legends such as Cathy Dennis and Guy Chambers, and underpins the importance of good songwriting in producing a hit,” he added.

Most played songs of the Noughties:

1. Kylie Minogue - Can’t Get You Out of My Head (2001)

2. Britney Spears - Toxic (2004)

3. Robbie Williams - Angels (1997)

4. Jamelia - Superstar (2003)

5. Liberty X - Just A Little (2002)
