It’s back to hard-hitting and point-crunching after the ankle and hamstring healed and youngster set up a summit clash with Shweta Solanki, accounting for top-seed Indonesian Grace Sari Ysidora 6-1, 7-6(4) in the quarters, on her way. The talented junior reached the final beating Rasika Sunkara 6-1, 6-2. Shroff last played in the DSCL nationals end-September, where she fared averagely for her form, before missing out on the points she was to defend in Chandigarh and Gurgaon.
“It’s good to be back in action, and battling to collect wins. I want to stay away from injury, and get the ranking -327 to up to 150s,” Shroff states - a conservative target, which she can supersede if her Grade II and III tournaments to be played in Tunisia yield better results. Operating from her Bangalore base, Shroff has begun her season well; a title-triumph in Kolkata might even erase the bewilderment of the 6-0, 6-0 result as a young 14-year-old.
