Chennai, October 29: AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa received a threatening letter warning her of ‘serious consequences’ if she continued with her ‘opposition to the cause of Tamil Eelam and LTTE’.

The letter, purportedly sent by one Tamizhmaindan, organiser of the Canada headquartered Ulaga Tamizh Pathugappu Kazhagam, warned that Jaya would face a fate similar to former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, AIADMK sources said.

The sources added that party functionary and MLA D Jayakumar lodged a complaint with the city Police Commissioner R Sekar over the issue.

However, Police Commissioner Sekar declined to comment on the issue.

Meanwhile, Jayalalithaa's advocate, Navaneetha Krishnan mentioned the matter before Justice M Jayachandran, judge of the Madras High Court and requested him to order the Tamil Nadu government to increase the security cover to her in view of the threat.

The judge directed the registry to post the matter before him on Thursday.

The letter charged Jayalalithaa with being a hindrance to the creation of a Tamil Eelam, ‘which is the only solution to Sri Lankan Tamils' problems and LTTE is fighting for that’.

"You are working against them and if you continue your opposition to the LTTE, the day is not far off when your funeral procession will be held, you know very well we will say whatever we can do. You will meet the same fate as Benazir Bhutto did," the sources said quoting the text of the letter.

Tamilians Vs. Maharashtrians by Indian on 30 Oct 2008

This event clearly highlights the double standards for the media. If Maharashtrains raise their voice to protect interests of their people, they are dubbed as "Terrorists". This is when Maharashtra has given a number of freedom fighters (Tilak, Savarkar, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, etc.) social activists (Ambedkar, Baba Amte etc.) and exceptional people in other walks of life (probably other than business which is their weak point) who always believed in the idea Indian nation. Right from the times of Shivaji, who fought to build Indian nation, till date, ordinary Maharashtrians always believes that their destiniy is with India. This is unlike Tamilians who demanded separate Tamil nation since independence, unlike Sikh who asked for Khalistan, unlike north east states who want to break away. We don't want to break away but to be simply respected in our country, in our state and in our cities. Is this too much to ask for? If Tamilians do such things, there is not a whimper in media, why?

LTTE by sarangan on 30 Oct 2008

Jaya's approach on LTTE is commendable, she says it's a banned organisation and their leadership is responsible for killing our beloved PM before our eyes. No let up, she is very dynamic and declares with no means " catch Prabakaran". Though she is a politician but she has a clear message on this issue at least.

Jaylalitha by Harry on 25 Feb 2009

Both Jayalalitha and Karunanidhi are opportunistic politicians and jump pole to post for political advantage. this seems more hoax than real, may be done by her own people to get sympathy.

LTTE death threats by Indopithecus on 30 Oct 2008

The best ending to the LTTE story is for these criminals to be crushed by the Sri Lanka Army, for leader Prabhakaran to bite a cyanide pill (as he promised), and for peace to descend on that poor, benighted land. Once the LTTE goes, Tamil Nadu politics can focus on its own people rather than a thug that has taken a country hostage.
