Colombo The LTTE has refuted reports that there was a Tamil Tiger threat to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her children, a claim rejected by the Sri Lankan Government which cautioned India not to trust the outfit as it has "well organised" international network.

The Home Ministry in New Delhi had last week issued an alert to states to provide tight security cover during the visit of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her children – Rahul and Priyanka – as they face a threat from LTTE.

The LTTE assassinated Gandhi's husband and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi during an election rally in Tamil Nadu in 1991.

LTTE political head B Nadesan refuted the reports and described it as a "malicious propaganda intended to divert the plight of the sufferings of the Tamil civilians and their quest for self determination".

Military Spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara said on Friday that LTTE cannot be trusted.

"Even if LTTE's Nadesan has denied that outfit was planning to attack Sonia Gandhi and her family, the LTTE should not be trusted as it has well organised international network to carry out any kind of attacks," Nanayakkara said.

He said the LTTE has links with external forces that makes it possible to undertake any mission.

LTTE threat to Mrs Ghandi by D B Atkinson on 11 Apr 2009

There has to be truth about what the LTTE says "No threat to Mrs. Ghandi or her children" This is all the sories being cooked up to gain sympathy from the voters. But let me know why should the tax-payer's money be spent for the security of the lady and her children. They have several crores so let them find private security personnel. They are misusing the game GANDHI when it is in truth GHANDI, Records prove this. But I trust the LTTE but not the Sri Lankan authorities who are killing Tamilians on one pretext or the other.

Who believes LTTE by anil bharali on 11 Apr 2009

Probably no body believes LTTE but they are capable of creating compulsion over people who once supported them without fully understading their terror agenda.

LTTE by richard on 11 Apr 2009

As long as LTTE asks for a separate state on the strength of their ammunition, they are a doomed. They are not only hurting Tamil cause but the revenues of the island in an warfare which otherwise would have been spent on improving living conditions of the people living there.

LTTE THREAT by Priyankara Nanayakkara on 10 Apr 2009

India now should realize the mistake of habouring , funding training and arming LTTE and LTTE will be India's biggest treat in the future. " Retribution is sure but slow"

LTTE threat to sonia by k.madhukar on 10 Apr 2009

It looks like that the threat to Sonia Gandhi from LTTE is a concocted story by the congress dirty dept to earn some sympathy for Sonia from the gullible Indian public during election time.LTTE it self is on the virge being wiped out and and it defies logic what benefit LTTE would derive from assassinating Sonia gandhi that too when it is on the death throes.
