Kolkata Maoist leader Koteswar Rao said on Saturday the West Bengal Government should stop the police operation in Lalgarh and hold talks with the people to find a solution to their problems.

"If the Left Front government wants to have discussion with the people of Lalgarh, the operation by the police and security forces against them should end by this afternoon," Rao, a politburo member of the CPI(Maoist), told a TV channel.

"Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee should come to Dalilpur Chak (a place near Lalgarh) and talk to the people. Many of the demands can be met through discussion," Rao, also known as Kishenji, said.

Referring to the ongoing joint operation by the state police and the para-military forces, he advised the Left Front government "not to dance to the tune of the Prime Minister or the Union Home Minister".

"If the CPI(M)-led government does not want any bloodshed, it should take a stand on its own," Kishenji said.

Though there was speculation that Kishenji had left for Jharkhand, he claimed that he was present in Lalgarh. Kishenji said that Friday night's landmine blast at Pirakata bazar was triggered after the people in many villages sent him messages advising that they should not wait any further and strike at the forces.

Asked how the Maoists would resist the security forces, he replied, "I cannot say right now."

The Peoples' Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) had made several demands which needed to be looked into, he said, underlining that they should not be rigid on the demand that the police would have to apologise for "atrocities against the people".

CPM = Maoist by Abby on 29 Oct 2009

It is the CPM party now who is funding the Moaists to fight in the jungle mahal. They have two objectives. One is to give a bad face to the movement which the common man of laalgarh has started. And the second one is more vital. To link TMC with the Maoists.Kishenji is not being arrested for 4 months though he is talking to reporters over mobile for months and months. This only proves that CPM doeasn't want to arrest him and curbe down the movement of common man.

Kill the terrorists! by Prem on 23 Jun 2009

Achievments of WB Govt. resulting in Maoists, Naxals by arun kumar on 22 Jun 2009

"Shall forget mother's name, father's name but not vietnam", "Tata Birla Chor" - burning trams and buses for 01 paise inc. in fares, Industrial unrest. Howrah one time hub of medium and large industries converted to slum, "Kalyani" dream industrial township of Late Dr. Vidhan Chandra Roy-in shambles - are the achievments of Left Govt.and respectable Sri Jyoti Basu in West Bengal.CPM leaders were briefless lawyers, teachers, dispalced persons from Bangla Desh - with no idea whatsoever of Industrial devlopment or Economics. All They wanted was a good living by looting rich people. All top leaders of CPM are millioners travel in 1a/c class. Jadavpur University was one of the first in India to award degree in Electronins Engg. but CPM protested introduction of computers in 70s-now they want IT industry to come to WB. "Aaamar Bari Tomar Bari Naxalbari" My house your house is Naxalbari (Naxals)Moaists - speak volumes of misery caused by CPM in WB. Comarade Yechuri, Karat - you are traitors.

Only political solution is feasible by S K Srivastava on 21 Jun 2009

I feel good bad or ugly but only political solution is the only feasible way of resolving any issue concerning masses. Violence is not at all a solution to any problem. If Maoist feel that they are raising some issue then they should form a political party and fight election. All said and done today elections are being done quite fairly and no one can claim of any foul play.

inept west bengal Govt by Dalim Paul on 21 Jun 2009

The inept left front government in west bengal claims to be pro-poor but for the last 25 years did nothing for the poor except feed them with slogans and bundhs and blaming imaginary imperialists for all the poverty and misery of the people. Now they are getting hit with rebillion all over the state by the tribals and poor the foolish CPIM wants to think of banning the Maoists can they banish poverty??

Lalgarh Maoist activities by Chanchal Dutta on 21 Jun 2009

Some outside forces including Trinamool Congress are directly linked with Naxal or Maoist movement in West Bengal. Fighting for the cause of Tribal is not the main aim of the movement at Singoor, Lalgarh ,Khejuri in West Bengal. Activities of Congress has to be identified. It is criminalization of politics. To stall the limited development of West Bengal Trinamool Congress,BJP

Orissa is rich but it is forced to stay poor by Pramod Shankar on 21 Jun 2009

I totally agree on this topic. Orissa is a neglectd state from independence, having all the resources of a rich state it is still a poor state. Why the central govt is always behaving like that it is not understandable. Whether it is NDA or UPA no one has done anything better for orissa. Mr naveen patnaik has taken the right decision not to support either UPA or NDA. It step motherly attitude towareds Orissa has been proved when only one state ministry has been given for orissa after election.

Maos by M.V.Muthu on 20 Jun 2009

One hopes that the Governments do not yield to the requests of the Maoists, who should be made to pack their bags and go back to their Maoland (Motherland), where also they may not even get admission.

Talk red by richard on 20 Jun 2009

What do the Maoists talk about? If they really wanted to talk, why they did not send their demands to the governing authority? If the governing authority is corrupt and oppressive, why they did not enlighten the people? Talks can be held with people who do not invade our lives with gun and arms. Government should insist laying down of arms by the Maoists and take judicial action against those who terrorize others in the name of a political party.

Lalgarh Maoists by Nathan Bahirathan on 20 Jun 2009

The government should stop talking to the Maoists. The Maoists have destroyed public property to creat fear in the peoples mindand weeken the government machinary.

MAOIST FOR NEGOTIATIONS by krisna on 20 Jun 2009

INDIAN FORCES SHOULD DESTROY THESE MAOIST NOT ONLY IN WB BUT ALL OVER INDIA AS THEY ARE WORST THAN UNDERWORLD AND ARE LIVING PARASITES.THEY ARE SNATCHING MONEY MEANT FOR TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT TO CREATE DIVIDE AND FRICTION IN ALREADY POLITICALLY CAHRGED ATMOSPHERE.EVEN ALL POLITICAL PARTIES AND POLITICIANS ARE TAKING THEIR HELP AND HAVE THEIR MEN IN THE MAOIST CADRE.HM SHOULD ONCE AND FOR ALL TACKLE THIS MENACE EVEN IF ARMY HAS TO BE BRAUGHT IN.

What is preventing by Dewang on 20 Jun 2009

I don't understand why Maoist problem is blown out of proportion? It is nothing but a handful of people calling themselves Maoists indulging in hooliganism. They have no strength or power beyond a few old rifles and some landmines. But the indian army is thousand times stronger. Then why is our Manmohan Singh and Chidambaram simply not able to eliminate this issue is a few days or so. It is simply incapability. If there is a strong leader like Indira Gandhi or Sardar Patel, I am sure this Maoism can be eliminated in a few days operation like the Punjab issue and then we all will be able to live safely in the country.

Psyophants galoe in the country! by Namdeo Das on 20 Jun 2009

Terror in State by http://twitter.com/skannath on 20 Jun 2009

Every corrupt regime in the world has dubious distinction of allowing their state for terrorism. In India act of terrorism has been predominantly associated with visits of foreign dignitaries from the white world. With US sounding alert to its nationals of their visits to India, even before any attacks has taken place, Mrs Hillary Clinton's visit in July castes doubt of impending act of terrorism to come. One wonders if it is an act of terror or manifestation of weakness of this nation in the presence of foreigners or is it old white man's saying shed blood for my appeasement.

Socialists in an emerging economy by Sriram on 20 Jun 2009

Maoists are thorns in a path towards development. A ban on maoists should not be limited to paper, it should be implemented strictly. Internal security issues are much grave than facing threat from Pakistan or China. Is there a 'Ironman' in Center where a Lion named 'Sardar' Patel used to control internal security issues once.

Talk with Maoist. by anil bharali on 20 Jun 2009

It is a very important moment for left front govt. rather a final acid test.CM Budhadev Bhattacherji is very poor diplomacy and politics but honest in mind.PM MMS is also sincere in extending help to state Goernment. Maoist is also keen to creat rift between state and central government from the begining. The interest of people of Lalgarh and the constitutional interest of the india should be the priority at the end.

Do I smell something fishy here? by Prakash Krishnagiri on 20 Jun 2009

After the Elections, Mamata asked for the dismissal of the West Bengal Government. Within days the Maoists issue has raised the tensions. This gives a perfect opportunity for the Central Government to dismiss the West Bengal Government by giving law and order situation as a reason. Do I smell something here?If UPA wants to gain from this situation, they should first find out if any terrorists organizations are supporting these Maoists. If so, use this chance to eliminate the trouble-making Maoists. But surely Government should listen to the greivances of the Tribals and resolve their problems. The government should resolve the issues of peace loving people and should teach a lesson for those who take law in their hands and also possibly get external support from other organizations abroad. MMS and PC should look beyond politics and treat people as people and speak to the terrorists and voilent demonstrators in the only language they probably understand.

why centre is indiffrrent for orissa deamnds by myindia10 on 20 Jun 2009

why centre is indifferent to demands of orissa to station CRPF and other PMP forces to tackle maoists and naxalites in orissa.yesterdaythey have killed 9 orissa anti naxalite forecs by mine blast and daily killing people and police.just 3/4 days back the valiant police officer narasingh mahakur was killed by them in a operation.it is true that half of orissa is under their operations and under their fiefdom.the police is totally demoralized by such killing.the govt couldnot control them.it needs aerial survey by helicopters and strong PMP forces. why centre s not helpful.is it not stepmotherly attitude as bjd govt is not under upa.

Let them lay down arms and surrender first by Subhrat Mahajan on 20 Jun 2009

This just seems like a ploy to buy time. Now that they see death they are feeling fearful. WB should deal with them just like Sri Lanka dealt with Prabhakaran. In case they lay down their arms and surrender their lives should be spared

Talk and persuade them to be law abiding by Dr Anand Dube on 20 Jun 2009

It is my firm believe that if this moist are tribals government should defiantely talk to them and adress their greviances immediately, that will send a great message i others areas like maharashtra gadchiroli, bastar parts of andrapradesh.but if they have any pakistani links like LET then they should be crushed with full force.

fight it out by kaushik on 20 Jun 2009

The MCC, if wants the armed way to bring out their voices then the forces should show them that they are no heroes. But yes government in these areas must take responsibility of the basic ammenities of life to the inhabitants of these place. I know these places and I say confidantly that the WB Government doesnot nothing for these areas.

STEP MOTHERLY ATTITUDE OF CENTRAL GOVT TOWARDS ORISSA by PRASANTA KUMAR on 20 Jun 2009

IT IS VERY MUCH UNFORTUNATE THAT CENTRALGOVT.IS COMMING FORWARD TO TACKLE MAOIST PROBLEM AT LALGARH,BUT INSTEAD OF REPEATED REQUEST OFHON'BLE NAVEEN PATTNAIK, THE CHIEF MINISTER ORISSA CENTRE IS BEHAVING AS IF IT IS NOT LISTENING THE DEMAND OF ORISSA FOR THE SAME CAUSE. WHY?MAOIST IS THE PROBLEM OF INDIA AS A WHOLE

The commie monkeys by venkat on 20 Jun 2009

Now the Centre has a valid ground for dismissing this rowdy CPM Govt. in West Bengal. It has created a war like situation. Centre should immediately impose President's Rule and call in defence forces to eliminate this maoist/naxalite menance forever. There is no need to talk to the people who have AK-47's to fight with the Police.
