New Delhi With his claims of railway turnaround coming under scanner, former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Friday rejected the charge of juggling figures, insisting that he had nothing to fear despite the white paper promised by his successor Mamata Banerjee.

"Let the white paper come before the House. My figures are correct.... Some people think money has been kept in almirahs. It's a matter of record. The minister himself does not make statistics. There should not be any confusion about it," the RJD chief told reporters outside Parliament.

Prasad repeated his demand for bringing out the white paper on working of Railways under his tenure within seven days.

"Will anybody will be able make statistics of earning through jugglery. It is completely wrong... That's why I said bring white paper within seven days and see all records. What is there to fear if one is true," he added.

Prasad accused Banerjee of failing to give dividend to railway employees during her previous stint as Railway Minister.

On the surplus funds with the Railways which Prasad had put at Rs 90,000 crore, Banerjee had yesterday said that a corpus of Rs 8,361 crore remained after expenditure of Rs 13,600 crore on account of Pay Commission award last year and Rs 2,600 crore this year.

It was seen as undermining Prasad's claims. The RJD leader sought to clear the issue of surplus funds saying he had mentioned it keeping the expenditure amount out of it. "Let the white paper come before the House. My figures are correct, she (Banerjee) will give her figures. It will be clear what is in her mind. If there is some confusion, it should be cleared," Prasad added.

On the issue of Kosi floods, Prasad demanded that the Centre give compensation for the damage caused by the deluge.

Prasad also sought to downplay the talk of not being allotted his previous seat in the front row of Lok Sabha or his office room in the Parliament being taken away.

"My strength is less. Rooms are allotted in Parliament to parties according to their strength.

"We have met the Speaker saying that our number is eight - four here (Lok Sabha) and four there (Rajya Sabha).

Our room is already small and hence we should be allowed to keep it," he said.

"It is being said that Lalu will get a seat in the back rows. What differences does it make? Lalu is not going to be lost with this," he added.

Lalu rejects jugling Railway figures.... by M Krishnamachary on 11 Jul 2009

It is wrong to blame an ex-rail minister, Mr. Laloo Pershad. If as Ms. Mamta Banerjee says statistics were manipulated , the persons manipulating should be taken to task, the officers concerned. If there is wrong doing even, it will take umpteen years to prove. In that back drop it is best not to say any thing even remotely tainting a former minister. Let us hope that the present rail minister gets on with the job on hand and making Railways the prime travel facility chosen by the people.

accounting jugglery by L C Bilandani on 11 Jul 2009

I will consider the likes of Mr. Bakul Dholakia,Director of IIM-A and the likes of other IIMs the biggest blokes who considered Lalu Yadav the economic wizard who turned around the railways finances.Lalu just fudged with the figures and stopped all the expenditure on development account and renewal of tracks and bridges etc.By classifying everyother train as super fast one can only load tons of money and also increasing the gross wieght of the wagon collected huge amount, dumping the safety to the rivers of Bihar. And am surprised that like Bakul Dholakia, Mr.Manmohan singh and sonia too praised him, who is know as the biggest fraudster and gangster of India.

Bioscopic views of Congress leader Sonia and asistant Manmohan singh by Dr Vyas on 11 Jul 2009

During the last parliamentary term Laloo Yadav was the Ankh ka Tara to Sonia and was allowed free hand to all wishful thinking that emerged from his substandard mind. Not was he allowed to blindfold the Indian public to the real state of Indian railways but was acclaimed as a business genius who overturned huge deficiets into money spinning organisation. Even the Stalwarts of Institute of Business managements wanted to take a leaf from Lalooji's achievements and pass on to their students. We now should expect Mamta Banerjee to stand firm on her feet, not be hoodwinked by Sonia Mataji, and bring the truth to the public at large with no reservations. Then i would say Long live indian democracy.

Manmohan Singh has to answer by HighHindu on 11 Jul 2009

Laloo was UPA-1's prime ally before this election. The misleading claims of Laloo were backed by Manmohan Singh and his entire cabinet.

Lallu the Management Guru by Subhash V.P. on 10 Jul 2009

I agree with Vyas and Murlidharan.Lalu Yadav who had held his state hostage for 15 long years and taken it backwards by decades cannot overnight give a turn around to the Railways. The rosy figures are to fool the people and all in India can be fooled including IIMs who arranged lectures of this 'Management Guru'.

Why Manmohan ANs Sonia are out of gambit? by Amit Puroit on 10 Jul 2009

Manmohan and Sonia are also equal culprits in praising Laaloo in last five years in all the elecction rallies and in Parliament.Mammohan Singh had been vocal on this issue a number of times, why the silence now and they both are equal and at times bigger culprits in the whole juglery and should be blamed in media reports with equal penetration as Lalooji recieves for being taking the sides of wrong to the extent of praise and fetching votes.Sonia and AMnmohan are on a mission to destroy this country and Hindu culture and belie of majority Indians.

ramesh, manipal by B Ramesh Adiga on 10 Jul 2009

The so called profitability/cash surplus figures in Indian Railways are easily emanable to lot of manipulation, particularly when the 'gentleman' at the helm of affairs is none other than Lalu Prasad Yadav during the regime - UPA - 1. The man in the street does not have any means of vouching the financial health or otherwise of an entity; he has to blindly go by the verdict that is presented by the people holding the so called responsble positions. However, a common man can surely feel the efficiency or otherwise of a service provider in the public domain. In this context if an objective judgement is to be passed on the railway services, (swiftness and punctuality, clealiness etc.) during the previous regime, there is nothing laudable as far are general public is concerned. Mamata's revelations may be discomforting for the Congress. One only hopes she will succeed where her cunning predecessor has miserably failed (the nation.)

Laloo's alleged surplus for Railways by Rajesh Vyas on 10 Jul 2009

Although I oppose commissions of enquiries as they are a collosal waste of time and money, in this instance I welcome the efforts of Mamata Banerjee to set the record straight. You cannot rule out the possibilities of jugglery by Laloo Yadav as his integrity (GIVEN THE FODDER SCAM) has always been suspect. This man can go to any lenghts to fool the gullible Indian people. Congratulations to Mamata--the only request is to finish this enquiry as soon as possible and issue the white paper at the earliest.

With the full backing of Congress by Muralidharan on 10 Jul 2009

With the full backing of the congress party Mr Laloo Prasad Yadav fooled the people of our country for Five years as Railway Minister bringing out false figures in the Railway budget. Now Ms Mamta Banerjee will not be allowed to bring out the white paper as that will bring out the truth to the people and the congress party has fully supported Laloo when he brought out those false figures presenting a very rosy picture to the people. The Congress party headed by sonio manio will see to it that the white paper is not presented and if at all presented it will come out with manipulated facts to save laloo and the congress>>>>
