To be honest, I don’t care much about trade reports. I hardly read film magazines. I think I had a pretty good ratio as an actor last year. Two of my films, Kabul Express and Dhamaal have done well, while Goal did moderate business.
Do you see yourself acting only in comedy films?
What to do? It is the most successful genre currently and every second film is a comedy. If action films continue to be hits, then probably you will see every actor doing such films. Apart from Sunday, that is releasing this month, I have films like Krazzy 4, Shortcut, Hit, Golmaal Returns and Teen Patti coming up. Among these, only Teen Patti is a serious film, where I’ll be sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan. I am busy till the middle of 2009.
Don’t you run the risk of a stereotype?
I haven’t seen myself doing anything other than comedies in the recent past. I don’t care about the genre of the film. I chose films based on the script not genre. Besides, I have done many serious films. For instance, I played a very interesting character in Sehar. Unfortunately, the film went unnoticed. I can work really hard as an actor, but all goes in vain if the film doesn’t do well. Acting in comedies is very challenging, compared to which serious films are a cakewalk.
What about your problems with John Abraham while shooting for Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal?
There was no personal problem, we had creative differences. The problem with Goal was its script changed many hands.
After Salaam Namaste, is your son (Zeke Zidane) appearing in any other films?
No way. He has already been approached to be the ambassador for many children’s brands but I have turned down all offers. I want to let him be a child as long as he can.
What’s new with you?
Very soon I’ll produce my own film, tentatively titled I Believe In Angels. It’ll be a romantic comedy. And I want to give the audience a break by not including myself in the cast.
