Lavalin case politically motivated: Karat

Thiruvanananthapuram CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Friday reiterated the party's stand on the SNC Lavalin corruption, saying that the politically-motivated attempt of the CBI to implicate party Kerala secretary Pinarayi Vijayan in the case was the latest of the organised attacks on the CPI(M).

In an article published in the party mouthpiece ‘Deshabhimani’ on Friday, Karat said that it was necessary that all democratic and secular forces joined hands to resist such attacks to carry forward the fight for protecting the sovereignty of the nation.

The party was being targeted for its sustained fight against imperialism, communal fascism, and retrogressive economic policies, he said.

On last Thursday, the party politburo had aired the same opinion and charged the Congress with using the CBI for political purposes. It should be noted that the central leadership has not budged an inch from the last week's stand on the case, despite several rounds of informal deliberations since then. Karat's opinion in the party newspaper does not bode well for Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan who wanted the party to remove Pinarayi from all organisational duties.

PINARAYI VIJAYAN by N.V.SANKARAN on 03 Feb 2009

When the CBI included Pinarayi Vijayan's name in the list of accused in the Lavlin case, the CPM youth wing leader said they would deal with anybody trying to even suggest Pinarayi's culpability would be severely dealt with on the streets. One minister said that he would cut away the hands of anybody who burns the effigy or photo of Pinarayi in protest against the high-handedness of the CPM goons. What is the difference between the Taliban and the CPM, both of whom want everybody to toe their line? If Pinarayi is really innocent, why doesn't he fight it out and prove it in a court of law, instead of resorting to threats and barbaric actions?

PINARAYI MOST CORRUPTED PARTY LEADER by Joicee on 31 Jan 2009

It is absolutely nonsene. Any ordinary voter from kerala knows that, Pinarayi is a liar and goonda. The Chief Minister Mr. V S Achudanandan has at least nodded that, Panarayi did the corruption. What the hell you Prakash karat say ? You are trying to cheat the poor voters of Kerala. What the hell you party did for the poor ? Your promises are only in the paper not practical mr. karat, do us a favor do not open your mouth.

How dare they vharge a comrade? by Jayadevan on 31 Jan 2009

Comrade, in what way is your stand diffrent from that of the Hindutva parties when faced with the Malegaon probe? I suggest, instead of wasting time propping up the Marxist Karunakaran, you could look out for a good lawyer for Vijayan. As we very well know, all these cases are meant to fail in court. After all, there are no permanent enemies in politics. So if you could turn down the volume a little bit on the moralizing, we would be very thankful. There was a time when being called a Communist in Kerala was a matter for pride. Out of respect for the dead comrades, at least...

Commies - India's Tumour by Sam on 31 Jan 2009

Anything that affects Chinese interest will make Commies make raise a hue and cry. But, if pinarayi is charged with corruption, they don't even want to let the investigations complete. Makes me wonder if the party also received Kickbacks. And, when it came to insulting the Brave Martyr Sandeep Unni Krishnan's family, all this enthusiasm which we saw for scuttling Nuke deal was replaced by NO COMMENTS. Commies are traitors who will work for their paymaster's in China to further the interests of our Nation's enemies. Karat

Throw out pinarayi !!! by Madhu on 30 Jan 2009

Poor Karat, Being a sympathiser to CPI - M, i know most of the grass root workers want Pinarayi to be out from party.. He is a global thief !!!

Crooked Communists by Bhanu. A on 30 Jan 2009

What else can one expect from these zombies who parrot pious platitudes when the shoe pinches their own feet? This ostrich-like attitude where everything bad is denied is nothing new for Indian politicians and Communists are past-masters at this goebbelism! Anyway, which crook will accept his mistake? Indian public are more mature and intelligent to see through all these shenanigans. The Communists will get a befitting reply in the next general elections. Their pseudo-secularism, dinosaur-age ideology based totalitarianism and fossilized mindsets will be wiped out from India soon.

24 Carrot communists are the need of the hour Mr. Karat by KVSKumar on 30 Jan 2009

Mr. Karat will come to know after the election that communism cannot be sustained by the votes those who lead ltheir lives in a manner that defeats the CEOs of big corporations. If the case is politically motivated why the party caders are saying that they will face the case politically and not legally. Why your state secy is afraid of the matter going to the courts?. If the CBI is being used by the Centre to settle scores with political oponets, then why your party did not do anything to stem this process in the last 4 years when it was on the side of the Govt at the centre?. Mr. Karat the people want leaders like AKG, EMS, etc. and not Pinarayi, Kodiyeri, etc. etc. They want leaders who are 24 carrot communists and not the dialuted and contaminated ones. Becase for corruption we already have congress int he State. We do not want communists to re-enact corruption on the people.

Communist Cheaters by N. Kurup on 30 Jan 2009

No doubt almost all the CPI(M) leaders spend lavish life styles at the expense of tax payers and cadres. There was a time when people like EMS, AKG, K.R. Gowri etc., spent simple life but leaders of today cannot sleep without AC, will travel only by Air and will stay only in Five Star Hotels. Is this communism?

Lavalin kick back by Kumar on 30 Jan 2009

Mr Prakash Karat cannot say that the communists are angels there was a large scale kick back that was involved in the Lavalin case Mr Pinarayi Vijayan along with some big communist leaders are definately involved in the scam . The people can see for themself the Huge Bunglow that Mr Pinarayi Vijayan has built in kerala .There is no political Motivation in this case that is for sure.

Morals for others only by srirengs on 30 Jan 2009

Their own CM is stating that there is a case. So is it supposed to mean that the CM is also part of the plan? We expected atleast a party like CPM which tomtoms about morals and principles stoops to this level. Morals are only for preaching to others and not to self.

Hypocrite commies by Ganesh on 30 Jan 2009

The CBI charges against CPM is "politically motivated" because the communists were expected to rule india with an absolute majority in the next election.People were impressed with their performance in the last government. It is their pipe dream that people will believe all this crap. The generally anti national communists now want the people's support to bail them out of the mess they are in.Illterate party cadres will tow their line because like a true communist, Pinarai has shared the booty with everyone in the party.Inspite of amassing millions they still put up a sorry show of concern for the downtrodden.
