Ludhiana, February 15 The garbage dump yard at the rear side of library in the District Court Complex in the city will soon get a clean and green look. The District Bar Association (DBA) President Parupkar Singh Ghumman along with other lawyers has decided to transform this 2500-square yard area into a green belt.

To start with the drive, the lawyers have collected Rs 20,000 as voluntary donations. Ghumman talking to Newsline said, “The garbage has been cleared from the site. In fact, lawyers were the ones who were throwing garbage at this site and now they have got the area cleared. A group of 50 like-minded lawyers will be contributing between Rs 50 to 100 per month to maintain the green belt.”

As per the DBA President, five lawyers have been delegated the responsibility. They are Kewalpreet Singh, Gagan Arora, Gurpreet Singh, Harmohinder Singh and Deepjot Singh.

New saplings and grass will be planted soon. As per the information, this area was a green belt but only on papers. The area has never been developed by the government, hence was being used as a garbage dump. Ghumman said, "Now, when the government is not doing anything to develop this area, we have decided to take an initiative. This will give clean and green surroundings to lawyers and visitors. It will no longer be an eye sore."
