Srinagar, July 3: Two militants, including Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba's chief operational commander for Kashmir region, were killed in a gunfight in Pulwama district on Thursday.

Based on a tip-off, a team of security personnel raided a house at Naina-Batpora village in Pulwama on Thursday morning, official sources said.

The militants opened fire on the search party, leading to a gunbattle in which the two LeT terrorists were killed, the sources said, adding that the exchange of fire lasted for several hours.

One of the two militants has been identified as Atif, chief operational commander of LeT, the sources said. The identity of the other militant is yet to be ascertained.

Atif was wanted in a number of cases, including the killing of Pampore Station House officer Manzoor Ahmad last year, they said.
