Beijing, January 13: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asked the domestic industry to engage China and to learn to both ‘compete and cooperate’ even as India Inc sought his intervention for early removal of trade and non-trade barriers to reverse the adverse trade deficit which touched a record USD 8.6 billion last year.

"Indian business is ready to face the brave new world of globalisation. China is an important part of that brave new world. We must engage China and learn to both compete and cooperate," Singh, who began a three-day maiden visit here, said at a brainstorming session with the business delegation accompanying him ahead of the Sino-Indian business summit on Monday.

Urging Indian business to ‘think big’, the Prime Minister asked the industry leaders to study China and to identify opportunities for business and greater engagement, stressing that their was enough space in the world for both countries to continue to grow.

At a time when there are concerns about a global economic slowdown, China and India can sustain global growth through their own development, Singh said.

Singh observed that a large part of the thinking in India about China is shaped by western views of China, and that there is need for greater investment in India in a better understanding of the processes of change in China.

CII President Sunil Bharti Mittal said the industry leaders raised the issue of certain trade-related barriers faced by sectors like pharmaceutical industry on issues like generic product registration in China.

Lesson For Indian Politicians by Suresh Ayappan on 14 Jan 2008

India's development thus far have been due to private sector initiatives and growth, Indian government instead of helping had so far impeded the potential of India. It is high time for our politicians to learn from the chinese government how to implement good policies fast, if they are embarassed to ask Bejing, they could always ask Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew.

India-China by Ravinder on 14 Jan 2008

Wow! Should't Mr. Manmohan Singh have instead asked Indian politicians and bureaurocrats to learn from China, and most other countries in the world?

The list of things to learn from the treacherous, brutal, Chinese communists by J. H. Arkhandi on 14 Jan 2008

Yes, we can learn a lot from China. Some lessons these Maowadis can give us: How to massacre without mercy, how to put entire families into sweatshops on the promise of communism and rule of proletariat, how to genocide Tibetans, how to decimate all opposition, how to torture in the most inhuman fashion, that too its own population, how to drive out a whole faith and exterminate the followers (eg. Falun Gong), how to shamelessly pollute the earth, how to destroy wildlife, how to convert their own innocent women into prostitutes (as Mao did), how to purchase politicians in Bengal and Kerala and make them betray their own country and culture... the list is endless.

Believe me China might have attacked India in Arunanchal Pradesh and crossed macmohan line by now by Mrs Chaarulata on 14 Jan 2008

China is a country of one people. They speak the same language and practice the same religion of budhism. Chinese never talk about bullshit like diversity, secularism etc. In china muslims who live in uighar are not allowed to shout in masjids. We indians are divided in caste, region, language etc. All political parties are involved in bifurcating various states in smaller ones to reap the benefit of political power by making illegal money. Criminals, rowdies, goons, mafias, police, judiciary and secular politicians have formed nexus and ruling the country by raping our democracy. Believe me China might have attacked India in Arunanchal Pradesh and crossed macmohan line by now. Shameless Indian media will not publish this news.

Do the Indian industrialists need to learn from the Chinese? by Hary Nambiar on 14 Jan 2008

Upon his arrival in China, the Prime Minister said "Indian industry needs to learn from China." The Prime Minister has and had numerous meetings with industrial leaders throughout his career. He had to say this while he is in China? Is he just resonating what the Chinese leader said the other day, that China has a lot to learn from India? Come on Mr. Prime Minister! In international diplomacy such talks are usual, but meaningless. The Chinese are insisting on Free Trade with India. They are being blindly supported by the Indian Communists. India has a negative balance of payment account with China. Most of the Indian and Chinese industrial products are comparatively same. China has massive subsidy program to help its industry to dumb its cheap industrial products all over the world. The Chinese products compete better all over the world because of the subsidy and the profitability arising out of cheap and disciplined labor in China. Thanks to the Indian communists, Indian labor force is far from being profitable and disciplined as compared to the Chinese workforce. Such an agreement, would, therefore, be catastrophic to the Indian industry. This program has been the focus of discussion among economic planners all developing countries. China's utter disregard of industrial property rights is well known. I am aware there is not much intellectual property that Indian industry has which, the Chinese dont have. The Indian communists dont care how China treats its labor force. Not much information comes out of China on anything at all. Indian media, which has the licence to run its mouth, does not care that the Chinese press is censured. There are no hartals, bandhs and go slows in China. The world knows what Chinese authorities did to suppress the pro-democracy stand in at the Tinnanman Square and what the Communist government did in Nandigram. China has different approaches in its talk and action. They never give up anything, but they have been brilliantly manipulating the world in every aspect. While the Indian leaders have been criticising United States for its involvement in Korea, China, cleverly annexed Tibet and put a claim on Indian terretories. When the western world had refused to recognize China and have been pampering Taiwan in the United Nations, India kept arguing in favor of Chinese rights to be in the United Nations. What India got in return was an armed invasion. Since independence, India has organized, and nurtured the non-aligned movement. Now that movement is one of the strongest opponents of India in its various efforts to move forward. In respect of India's nuclear cooperation with the United States, the NAM has been on the forefront in objecting everything India proposed. For half a century, India has championed the cause of Asian, African and Latin American countries and have loud mouthed all the time offending western countries. In every international meetings, India blamed Britain, and US for every evil while China was unconcerned. Now China is the best friend of the NAM, and African Union countries. Chinese government have successfully negotiated long term contracts to exploit natural fuel resources all over the developing world at the expense of India. In 1971, Indian soldiers gave flesh and blood to free Bangla Desh from the tyrany of Pakistan. Now millions of Bangla Deshis have crossed into India and settled down. Most of the terrorists, RDX and explosives used in terrorist activities in India come through Bangla Desh. China is the largest supplier of advanced weapons to Bangla Desh. Against whom are they planning to use these weapons? China has entered into an agreement to set up nuclear power stations in Bangla Desh. In return, China would get to use Bangla Deshi port facilities for the Chinese Navy. Why do they need port facility in Bangla Desh? China is developing a deep water port in Pakistan, not far of Karachi where it would have access to its Navy. Soon you can expect the Chinese Navy to have its presence in Trincomelee, in Sri Lanka. The Communists are opposed to any Indo American defence cooperation because they believe it will lead to the encircling of China. They organized people's march all over the eastern seaboard to oppose the four day presence of US Aircraft career off Chennai. I hope the Communists government will not secretly negotiate granting port facility in Cochin or Kannur in case of hostility.China has shown that it will do anything to slow down India's economic growth and political stability. Despite the fact that Pakistani trained terrorists are in the forefront of an insurgency in Western China, they have made huge investment in Pakistani political and military infrastructure. Now they know, Pakistan is on fire and likely to disintegrate. How solid a force to recon with, the nation which is now known as Pakistan, would be if it is split into Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan and NWFP? The Pakistan card is no longer winnable. So now China is trying to take advantage in the weak political system in India. They are fully aware that Indian politics is infested with selfish people of questionable political and socio-economic farsightedness. The Chinese are good learners and good negotiaters across the table. They are good at intimidating too. The Prime Ministers trip to China would bring much less gains than loss to India. I hope the loss will not include the loss of territory east of Bihar.

LEARN FROM CHINA CONGRESS PARTY AND PM MANMOHAN SINGH!WHEN WILL YOU ACT IN THE INTREST OF NATION!

You are right Mr. Singh by Danny Sharma on 14 Jan 2008

Prime Minister Singh, is absolutely right, we need to learn form China and we need to understand that we share our borders with this country and when we add the population of India and China almost 1/3rd of the world lives here. We can live happily and do business with each other. India and China need to relax visa norms, or abolish visa for citizens to travel between both countries. This will help tourism industry, Chinese desperately need English education and India can fulfill that really easily.

Seculars never learned even after shameful defeat of 1962; Some people never learns by Mrs Chaarulata on 14 Jan 2008

China is a country of one people. It has nationalised muslims also in Uighur province and muslims are not allowed to construct masjids and madrassas which breeding ground of islamic terrorism. Nehru failed India by re-organising our states because our states are behaving like different countries now. Shiv Sena, ULFA,SP, RJD, DMK, Communists, and Akalis are the examples with their regionalistic agenda which is making India a weak nation as a result we are not able to take on with our enemies like China and Pakistan. China gave humiliating defeat to us in 1962 and captured Tibet and Aksai Chin. Nehru was on the visit to China in 1962 when Chinese entered our western borders. Last time Atal was on China visit then China attacked in Arunanchal Pradesh and crossed Mac Mohan Line. Nehru was shocked with the defeat and had put behind bars Jyoti Basu in 1963 who was working for China. Nehru could not recover with this shock and died in 1964. He realised his mistake of hatred against hindus and appeasement of muslims which he carried out during his 17 years of tenures. The way Nehru brainwashed hindus that we still feels shame calling us hindus and secular government arrest hindus if they utter the name of Lord Ram. Sardar Patel used to call Nehru most nationalist Muslim Prime Minister of India. With passage of time congress lost the sight and focus our defense preparedness with reference to pygmy nations like Pakistan and Bangladesh. China has emerged mightier than 1962 as our secular parties communists and congress are working against Hindus to gain muslim votes whose loyalty exist for muslim world outside India.

Learn from China by Joseph Pazhamadam on 14 Jan 2008

It is not the domestic industry or Indian business to learn to both 'compete and cooperate'. But it is the Indian government to learn from the Chinese government and provide the necessary infra structure for the domestic industry to compete and cooperate. So, better wake up the worthy Indian Ministers!!

Last time when Atal was visiting China its military attacked India in Arunanchal Pradesh. How about now ?? by Mrs Chaarulata on 14 Jan 2008

It is UPA government who should learn from China. I have been observing Indian leaders clubbing China and India together while discussing world economy on any forum. India would be wise to trade carefully as China still acts as a regional bully and will crush Indian interest and industries. Pakistani missiles Gauri, Gajnavi and Shaheen were brought from North Korea to Pakistan through China. China gave crude bomb to Pakistan to explode in 1998 after our nuke test in Pokhran to derive political mileage out it. China has increased attacks on our borders in recent years too much sensing a weak and secular (non-nationalist) UPA government who do not see india beyond muslims and minorities. Yesterday, Pranav Mukherjee said that China does intrude our borders as if it is very normal phenomena. Do we have guts to intrude into Chinese territories ? Our defense preparedness has been jeopardised and we failed to procure 126 5th genearation stealth fighter jets in last 10 years to secure our mother india. We need 5 Aircraft Carriers, ICBM missile defense system, nuclear submaries and strategic long range bombers on war footing to counter China. UPA govt loses its sleep on arrest of muslim terrorists, provide them first claim on all resources, provision 15 points agenda for muslims in 11th plan overlooking merit and hindus. China swallowed Tibet, Aksai Chin and now claiming half of India. China snatched our territories in 1962 and killed more than a lakh indian soldiers. China is building its military on our borders and our coward spineless scared leaders are blabbering and singing the tune of China.

We need a bold and nationalist PM who can take back our territories from China. Last time when Atal was visiting China its military attacked India in Arunanchal Pradesh. How about now ??

India must know that glitter is not gold. by DILIP / FRANCE on 13 Jan 2008

The Credit crunch debacle only affects Anglo Saxon economies. It is a matter of subject matter that China and India will drive the the Global economy in 2008,2009 and hence forth. Investment flow works both ways,China must provide level playing field and allow the Yuan to free flow rather than manipulating it to its trade advantage. China has as much to learn from India,as India from China. It is high time India stopped kow towing to China.P.M. If he has any self esteem should learn to speak from position of strength. It is true to state that China will not be able to prevent India from becoming a major power and vice versa. Rather than getting coca hoop about China, India would be wise to trade carefully as China still acts as a regional bully.
