The two-day meeting of the Central Committee would give final touches to the CPI(M)'s Political-Organisational Report, which would be adopted by the party's Congress slated in March-April at Coimbatore.
The meeting is being attended among others by General Secretary Prakash Karat and his senior colleagues, including Sitaram Yechury, M K Pandhe, Brinda Karat and S R Pillai besides leaders from all over the country.
The CPI(M), in its last Congress in Delhi, had decided to develop its independent strength and expanding its political base in new areas and among various sections of people, like Dalits, tribals, minorities, women and other dow ntrodden sections more vigorously.
The activities carried out to focus on the problems of these sections came up for a review at the meeting on Friday, party sources said.
The party also reviewed its efforts towards greater coordination with other Left parties in the wake of serious differences which have arisen, particularly in West Bengal over the Nandigram issue.
Suggesting a possible realignment of forces at the national level, the party has also said the Left parties have the responsibility to initiate the process of formation of a non-Congress, non-BJP alternative on a common policy platform by initiating united struggles on common issues.
