New Delhi, July 9: Ending their over four-year relationship, the Left parties on Wednesday withdrew support to the UPA government on the 'notorious' Indo-US nuclear deal, price rise and other issues, reducing it to a minority.

Top leaders of CPI(M), CPI, Forward Bloc and RSP met President Pratibha Patil and submitted separate letters on behalf of their outfits withdrawing support, along with a joint letter asking her to "direct the Prime Minister to seek a vote of confidence in the Lok Sabha immediately."

Charging the government and the Congress leadership with "always looking up to the US" and "disregarding" the majority voice in Parliament on the deal, they said the government has not been transparent on the nuclear deal and demanded that the text of the safeguards agreement draft, to be finalised with the IAEA, be made public.

The Congress was "determined to go ahead with a further right-wing shift in both foreign and domestic policies, thus providing a fertile ground for the communal forces," CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat told reporters.
