Left owe allegiance outside India: Sheila Dikshit

Kochi, March 6: Criticising the Communist parties for their stand on the Indo-US nuke deal, senior Congress leader and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said they were opposing every step the UPA government was taking to develop the country.

"Those who say they are fighting communal forces are trying to bring down the UPA government. We cannot understand the ideology of the Communists. They are not the nationalists we thought they were," she said addressing women Congress workers in Kerala.

Maintaining that the Congress has built the nation 'brick by brick', she said it was a shame to note that some partners of the ruling UPA do not see India in the same perspective as the Congress does. "Why don't they want India to prosper, do well and sign the nuke deal?" she asked.

Dikshit alleged the Left parties owe allegiance to countries outside India and not India. "Why do they oppose it for India and not for their supposed friends -- China and Russia? she asked adding, ‘they do something, mean something else and say a third thing’.

On the Nandigram issue, she said in West Bengal, there have been riots when poor farmers had not been given their rightful compensation for their land.

She alleged the Left parties had one set of parameters for their government in West Bengal, another for the country and yet another for the UPA government, she said.

Dikshit said Congress president Sonia Gandhi has given development a 'human face'. Farmers and women of India have all got relief in the budget. "Thanks to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, India's growth rate has touched 9 per cent," she said.

CAN CONGRESS ACT TOUGH? by A.K.SHARMA on 08 Mar 2008

If the Congress is convinced that thew Leftists owe loyalties out side India, then why it can not gather enough courage to slap treason charges against the Communists? Not only Communists,in a way even Christians and Muslims owe their loyalties to Vetican and Mecca. Can the Congress gather enough guts to take some sort of action against themalso?Talking tough is one thing but acting tough is the real thing. But what the poor Congrtess can do,even their president,Sonia, has her loyalties to Rome.

Forget the Hyde Act by K Sanjiv on 07 Mar 2008

How many times must people be told that the Hyde Act applies to the USA alone; it is domestic law. The 123 agreement is the only agreement that India must comply with if this deal goes ahead. Indian communists consider themselves above the country in the most obnoxiusly patronising way. Hope Mrs. Gandhi calls their bluff and then puts an end to their arrogance through the ballot box.

Simple as 123... by Des N M on 07 Mar 2008

It is a simple legal principle that the provisions of the 'enabling' legislation will prevail in case of contradictions in the agreement that is based on the Act. 123 agreement explicitly refers to the Hyde Act and its provisions and not seeking exemptions from the domestic laws of the US as china did in their 123 agreement. Also listen to the US officials when they say that the Hyde Act will indeed apply for all provisions within the agreement with India.

Scary but true.... by withheld on 07 Mar 2008

All the US officials have re-iterated that the agreement will only be within the framework of the Hyde Act and the Hyde Act explicitly puts its objective as one to eliminate and roll back India's nuclear capability. Further, recently the undersecretary unequivocally stated that the agreement is all about 'non-proliferation'. Those who fancy about 'equal' partnership with the US and technology transfer to India under this deal that will bring progress, etc, will be deeply disappointed. Even if the next government withdraws from the agreement once it was signed, 14 out of the 22 reactors as of now and close 95% in years' time will be under IAEA inspection in PERPETUITY, that is right, in perpetuity. Is that one calls something in national interest ? What a deal ! The question is why is the UPA running after this blindly, even when the parliament did not approve the deal ? One can blame the left or BJP but as readers below pointed out, the implications are grave to the strategic interests of the nation.

Study Hyde Act, then you would not support by Aninda on 07 Mar 2008

Study Hyde Act, then you would not support. Those blindly support n-deal are ignorant, they have never seen the Hyde Act. Read it first and see the implications.

Break Ties with MIM as well, they are a GREATER EVIL than Communists by Anonymous on 07 Mar 2008

Sheila Dikshit has always been known for her intelligence and frank views. Indeed Congress and Communists are incompatible. And so are Congress and MIM: Every terror suspect being arrested by the Police in Hyderabad is being immediately freed without having to face investigation by MIM. It will be good if Congress breaks ties with that party as well - they are a GREATER EVIL than the Communists.

A PLANNED AND ORGANIZED NATION by THE GREAT PLANNER on 07 Mar 2008

Left and China are hand in hand by Suvi Cyriac Nadakuzhackal on 07 Mar 2008

India need technology from out side countries for our nuclear energy requirements. The left and the BJP are turning a blind eye to this requirement in opposing the nuclear deal. The left in particular is showing their allegiance to China by not protesting China's infiltration in the North east of India, especially Arunachal Pradesh.

Lefts has allegiance outside India by Varinder Sarin on 07 Mar 2008

While Sonia Gandhi and her stooges are enjoying power on the crutches LEFT and on the other hand Shiela Dixit at the fag end of trm sees REDs having allegiance outside India. Although she find out the reality but why she is saying now. As it is well known that a man is known by the company he keeps, therefore Congress and Left are in the same boat, both have their allegiance outside India, perhaps Italy and China respectively. Chip of the same bloc.

Indian communists by raj on 06 Mar 2008

It’s time we thoroughly investigate Indian communists: what exactly are their game plans. We should go back into history, since the very start of communism in India and start a detailed investigation of their stands vis-a vis real, result-oriented developments in India. The electorate in West Bengal and Kerala has a bigger role to play to understand the real motives of these communists. Also, Indian election commission along with the judiciary should see to it that the communist governments in these states do not rig the coming elections in their states using their district-by-district, block-by-block rogue party cadres. These people should be thoroughly investigated by the Indian media, academics, judiciary, and the electorate at large. It’s high time now.

What a hypocrisy and cheating! by jay on 06 Mar 2008

“Dikshit said Congress president Sonia Gandhi has given development a 'human face'.” May I ask what the law abiding people, mainly the farmers did wrong who paid their loans? Will congress party consider to return all the loans from such farmers and other people to paid their loans in due time? May I know what Congress is doing to recover huge loans by many powerful Industrial houses who took loans in tunes of hundreds of corers of rupees and never paid a paisa to many nationalized banks? Is that a “human face” congress is trying to advertise and encourage remaining few law abiding citizens to cheat national exchequer and the country?

WHY THE NSG WANT INDIA TO JOIN by FARIS on 06 Mar 2008

CONGRESS WANTS TO SELL THE COUNTRY TO FOREIGNERS. IT HAS ALREADY A FOREIGNER AS IT HEAD. ALL THE NSG COUNTRIES, INCLUDING RUSSIA AND CHINA,WANT INDIA NOT TO SUCCEDE IN THORIUM NUCLEAR ENERGY SO AS TO STOP INDIA FROM BECOMING SELF SUFFICIENT IN ENERGY AND A SUPER POWER.

really? by raj on 06 Mar 2008

do you even understand the abc of self independence in thorium processing??? the current defense russian deals are going thru serious, significant problem, much more than what you read in the media. we need a strategic relationship with the USA and Russia both. i don't mean to undermine our scientists, but get a reality check on self-reliance in the nuclear or any such field. look around (outsided the commy well), take a realistic stock of the global economy and then take stands.

Old habbit die hard by jay on 06 Mar 2008

It’s surprising that Congress took so long to understand this naked truth about Indian communists parties. I am sure Congress will conveiniently forget the same truth once the election is over and they will share the same bed with the Left parties again to enjoy power and cheat people. It’s the habbit of Congress party to talk something before election and do the same “mistake” again and again once the election is over only to re-invent the wheel once more. Congress is too greedy to do almost anything to enjoy power and money associated with power.

Congress is a foreigners party by Aditya on 06 Mar 2008

S Dikhit: Left owe allegiance to foreign countries, but Congress party is a foreigner party. Congress is more dangerous than Left. Left didnot made a foreigner their leader and don't worship a white foreigner. You Congressi made an Italian fascist white chrsitian your leader and want to make India sub-servient to christian west. I appeal to the ignorant Bharatiya and Hindus to understant the implications of Hyde Act. Do we want de-nuclearise our nation and roll-back our weapon programme? Think think think wisely.

THE NATION DOES’T WANT THE ABOMINABLE LEFT AND DICTATORS. by A.Mahadevan on 06 Mar 2008

The Left has imprisoned the entire country. Who do they think they are? They are a bunch of self-centred ignorant dreamers. The people of the country are sick and tired of the irresponsible behaviours of the Left. The nation demands the Congress leadership to dissolve the parliament and go to the polls to establish the judgement of the people whose democratic rights cannot be ignored

Cruel America by Man on 06 Mar 2008

Has anybody given thought on why America is so generous to offer its technology to India?

America want us to be their slaves by Vidhur on 06 Mar 2008

Yes, America want India to be the SuperPower, even bigger than them. That is not a joke, they really doing a favor, to make us sub-servient SuperLower to white west. Is it not good, Indians always like to be slaves. One white Italian christian rule them, and they are so happy to find European ruling them. Slaves can never become Masters, they always remain slaves.

Cruel America by Vejain on 06 Mar 2008

Yes. The price of oil has shot up to over $100 per barrel. One of the reasons why the price of oil has gone up is the high demand generated by the high growth (around 9%) India is experiencing now. Also, burning fossil fuel can only add to the global warming. The US knows it cannot reduce its own energy requirement dramatically. Nor has it got much sway or influence over how China behaves. It probably hopes to prevent India going the way China has over the last 20 years.

Leftists , Come demonstrate your patriotism by Satindar on 06 Mar 2008

If the leftist parties have any guts or shame , they should demonstrate by condemning. China for its ill intentions towards India and its absurd claims to Indian territories.China never in the past had any direct border with India. Illegal usurption of Tibet which went unchallenged is the beginning and the cause of all these troubles.Let the leftists demonstrate that they are patriots
