According to Range Forest Officer, P R Masurkar, the leopard tried holding itself to a pipe before falling into the well. Though it is not clear how it fell inside the well, locals claim that the incident happened around afternoon.
When the news of the leopard falling into the well reached the locals, they alerted the forest department. It managed to cling to the pipe but by the time the officers reached, it fell into the well.
The body has been sent to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park for autopsy, said forest officials.
Since last one and a half months two leopards from the park have died — one died after a vehicle hit it on Ghodbunder road and the other was found dead on the outskirts of a farm.
