New Delhi, January 18: The BJP on Friday said it has no objection to French President Nicolas Sarkozy bringing his sweetheart Carla Bruni on his official visit to India later this month.

As confusion prevailed on whether the French President will bring the former super model with him, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said it was upto the ‘guest’ to decide who should accompany him.

"Why are you making it an issue," she asked in reply to a question on what was the BJP's stand on Sarkozy bringing his girlfriend on an official visit.

Look for policies not private life by Paramjit Bahia on 19 Jan 2008

Yes I have always opposed the BJP and will continue to do so. But must give the credit when its due. Sushma Swaraj is right on this one. Hope her party won’t make a U turn.My view? We should look for Sarkozy’s foreign policy not his private life or current partner. As long as two individuals are happy its none of anybody’s business. I am amazed that even in 2008 supposedly progressive IE is making an issue of this kind. Come on Editor Start living in the real world.

Why "create" news like this ?? by SoftWords BigStick on 19 Jan 2008

Is the media trying to "create" news by asking BJP about this matter ? Sushma Swaraj is absolutely right is saying "Why are you making it an issue" in reply to a question on what was the BJP's stand on Sarkozy bringing his girlfriend on an official visit.

India is not a primitive country, but a minor percentage are BJP extremist. by "Nautankee" on 19 Jan 2008

BJP extremists are trying to look liberal? These goons are true copy of Al-Qaida and their mind runs like them.

Congress is the real "nautankee" by SoftWords BigStick on 19 Jan 2008

First of all, BJP did not make any statement, instead the media is trying to "create" news by asking such silly questions of the BJP. Sushma Swaraj is absolutely right in asking "Why are you making it an issue" in reply to a question on what was the BJP's stand on Sarkozy bringing his girlfriend on an official visit. Equally important - atleast the BJP is open about its stand. So called "liberal" Congress folks opposed Colombian girlfriend of their "illustrious leader" Rahul because it would "hurt" their image. Why do they indulge in such pretenses ??

French President visit to India by s.vishwanathan on 18 Jan 2008

Let Sarkozy bring Bruni, we have no problem, says BJP - the report is very encouraging. Generally BJP is seen as a party which is very conservative having a very narrow view. I hope it is a good beginning and it brings in its fold all the forward looking views be it economic reforms, religion or race and so forth. Such a liberal view will do good not only to the BJP as a party but for the country as a whole. Well done BJP. Let it be a forerunner many more fruitful views.

BJP double standards by Anna Das on 18 Jan 2008

Don't trust BJPs word. They can make an issue out of nothing.

reply to Anna das view dt.18 Jan 08 by s.vishwanathan on 18 Jan 2008

Dear Sir/MadamPlease be more liberal. No one single individual/party is perfect. Everyone of us is an amalgam of good and bad. If we think of others in positive term, such "others" would become "positive" in their outlook. Pl give it a try. I do not mean any disrepct to your views. You are entitled to your views.Respectful regards. If I have hurt you in any manner please do pardon me.

BJP by Anna Das on 18 Jan 2008

Hi Viswanathan,I put my view based on past experience with BJP. Probably they wanted to be seen as liberal, but they are not. BJP is the other side of the Communist coin. Anyway, you have all the right to put your views agreeing or disagreeing. I too respect that. Best Regards

Delhi has to treat this issue as simple...no official marriage, no first lady treatment...Public discussions not necessary.
