It’s been a while since we saw John Abraham dressed in a spring-onion skirt and wearing vegetable jewellery for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) ad campaign where he was urging citizens to “let vegetarianism grow on you”. This time he spared us the visual shock and wore sedate black formals as PETA and its other “mascots” — read Yana Gupta who plays mermaid and cow girl Raveena Tandon — celebrated its eighth birthday in Mumbai on Friday. Adding colour to the event, Ahana Deol did an Odissi dance piece and choreographer Sandip Soparrkar and leggy model Jesse Randhawa set the floor ablaze with some passionate salsa moves. It was a rather cute cake-cutting as all the PETA models got together to do the honours. Tandon got a chance to flash her green diamonds at the bash.

Showstopper: Let’s just say we are partial to John and his suave good looks, and also his heart of gold which melts for all animals in distress.
