"In deference to the sentiments of the people of the region, the Telugu Desam supports the demand for a separate statehood to Telangana," the party Politburo said in its one-page resolution.
Announcing the decision at the party headquarters in Hyderabad, TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu said Telangana was a ‘historic necessity’ and ‘our party has taken the right decision in this regard.’
The TDP, which was founded by late N T Rama Rao in 1982 to safeguard the ‘Telugu pride’ and ‘self respect’, would continue to uphold these ideals and ‘we shall re-dedicate ourselves to the Telugu people,’ Naidu said.
The TDP's pro-Telangana stand was not taken for any political aims, he asserted, adding that the party had conducted an elaborate exercise for over two-and-a-half years on the ‘sensitive’ issue.
"We do not take certain decisions only for political gains. We go by the people's wishes and respect them," Naidu said.
The TDP will do whatever required ‘legally, constitutionally and politically’ for the creation of Telangana state, he added.

That TDP president Chandrababu Naidu is a hypocrite is evident from this shift in his policy on Telangana. Once a die-hard samkhya andhra pradesh proponent has overnight changed his colours. For a man who backstabbed his father-in-law N T Rama Rao, i think this shift in his stance is not surprising. Naidu is a chameleon who changes colours to suit his political interests. He honeymooned with BJP in the last elections and now calls it a communal party. Come on, Naidu, do you think voters are iditots?
Administratively Andhra Pradesh is a nightmare extending from almost from Chennai to almost Nagpur. How a poor man from Chittor or VIzag to go to capital for varioius reasons and necessities. Singapore has show small is beutiful and a big state is not necessarily an advantage and yet control of events is administrative nightmare. Alvin Toffler once mentioned India and China will survive only when decentralize with autonomies and smaller states with a strong central government. India will be more strong if there are fifty or even sixty states , small states with more local autonomy with clearly definied role for central government in defence, currencey, foreign affairs, income tax and interstate relations and freeways and all the rest to states and that freedom will give states to choose their destiny and yet they can have linguistic and geographic zones for betterment of their people
Now leaders should start fighting for seperate statehood for S R Nagar, Ameerpet, Dilsuknagar and so on
hehehe ..... we may speek different dialicts but we speek Telugu. let all people who speek Telugu be united ... Its us to decide not the politicians.
Chandra Babu Naidu(CBN) should be "Cut Burn Nail-down" because this is what he would be doing of AP. This is the politics which is dirtiest in the world. People playing in this are the greatest of hypocrites who will even sell there mother to gain so called ?POWER?....Shame
The state of Andhra Pradesh should never be divided for these power hungry politicians. There are already water / border wars between the exisiting staes, it will only increase manifold. There should be a referendum acrross the sate of Andhra Pradesh for any such moves. We are already witnessing what is happening to smaller states like Chattisgarh,Jharkhand etc.
Dear Editor, to my knowledge, history tells that there were over 50 princely states which were amalgamated after independance. Hence as per Chandrababu Naidu, if telangana was to be given a statehood, then it is also necessary to giove statehood to all those historically important states like "Indore", "Palithana", "Mysore", "Gwalier", etc the list goes unending. The question is that such leaders are taking undue advantage of centiments of peoplke and showing them a "Heaven in palm". As such people should throw away all the present political parties including congress. The President should take over the rains of this country and rule like in US.
It's a great news ,at last TDP has taken a wise decision. Now congress will be forced to taken any decision on telangana. I hope the telangana state is going to be a reality soon. Telangana people should vote wisely this time. Should overthrow the money
Mr. Naidu stated that he would "...go by the people's wishes and respect them." If he really respects the people's wishes, his party should strive for the progress of the poor people, not just “his” progress. Dividing the state is not the panacea for the problems facing our state. For example, a farmer from Srikakulam or Adilabad or Chittor requires adequate irrigation facilities, cheap credit, and proper market access, not division of the state. The supporters of state bifurcation can claim that these requirements can be fulfilled only by dividing the state, than a committee should conduct a proper study. This committee should consist of people from “all walks of the life,” not just politicians, bureaucrats and academicians. We the people of Andhra Pradesh should not be carried away by the empty rhetoric of these “political opportunists.” After an impartial analysis, if all the factors favor decision of the state that let us go for it. But let us not base our decision on the whim
Desperation has caused Naidu to talk of telangana. All desperate parties want telangana but nobody is talking what they will do if they get telangana and why they cannot do it with combined state. What will happen if the proposals of parties for good economy by dividing state does not happen or fructify, afterall even russia was incapable of controlling market forces from communisim to market based economies, how can small parties like TDP,TRS,BJP have the say for market forces which are very much like tsunami's or floods or cyclones.Playing with state hood and economy is not something that is easy.Poverty will be likely event than richness,Amrutamu mundu halahalamu puttunu.Nobody is talking about negatives everybody is only talking that things will be better or wishes of people etc.Tomorrow people will wish for not paying taxes will parties agree to it.
Mr. Naidu and other politicians of the country can stoop to any level for votes and power. The likes of Naidu, Mulayam, Maya, Laloo, paswan, KSR and others can easily sell away the country for the sake of power one day. If we keep on disintegrating the country on the basis of some reason or the other..there is no end to this. We can understand if the reasons are Administrative related. But this is all because of some guy want to get to power and control a region in the country by becoming a CM. It is unfortunate to see even normal people can't see these leadrs personal goals to sell away the country and its people.
In my view unity is diversity.Dont divide the Ap into more parts .keep it like that only. All are telugu people so in my view its best not to divide into parts and be as one.
Long Live Chandrababu Garu. You have won the hearts of Telengana people by this gesture. We deserve a visionary like you take this on and create history. Telengana people will support you for having taken this decision boldly.
It is nothing but Naidu's desperation and a last and final effort to retain the cadres within the Party and to take a piggyback ride on TRS.
No one from educated people Listens to you Eshwar. Had anyone listened to NTR when Babu dethroned. All educated people now want is caste caste caste. Classic expample of TANA
Smaller states like Haryana have demonstrated immense growth potentialities and quick development. The grouse of the Hyderabad Telengana citizens about neglect by the coastal district politicians has to be handled with a kid glove as done by Chandra Babu, who seems to be realistic at long last.
sir,To gain power chandrababu back-stabbed NTR; now stooped to bifurcate AP.A son of a two acre holder small farmer, became richest politician according to Tehalka with twothousand crore rupees. He introduced caste politics. Now, TDP cadres in entire coastal AP will join Chiranjeevi's Party.TDP will lose deposit. In Rayalseema which hates Bifurcatin of AP, Naidu is sure to be thrashed at the polls.Again in Telangana, who believes TDP? they have ignored BJP; like-wise they ignore TDP and bank on TRS which will take credit for all the outcome.By backing seperate Telangana,NTR's idealogy of Samikyandhra is betrayed by the present TDP.
Please stop spliting the state for political reasons. Together we have better chance of influencing the center for states development. If our state become two we will not have same infulence on the center. Please think twice before making such statements.
There you go again - willing to divide and sub divide for political gains. This is my simple question. What are the justifications for dividing AP? Is it too much of a challenge for the administration? Or is it that the people of Telengana are like the babies crying for milk? We have divided UP, MP and Bihar. Can we assess the benefits and losses? Is Telengana really an ignored part of AP? Will their goals be achieved only by partitioning? What about Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra etc? Will they not ask for their separation? What will happen of Hyderabad? Mr. Chandrababu Naidu did great things to put Hyderabad and Andhra on the fast gear. He did make some mistakes too and paid for them politically. Remember, even Congress tied up with TSR before the elections and YSR showed cold shoulder after that. The tackling of Naxalite problem by the Congress government has been extremely short sighted.
One more spineless leader who was congress man than TDP then Part of BJP and now waiting to Break another state WHAT A SHAME
Advani, in subtle language, describes (in his autobiography) how TDP provided a major reverse thrust in 2004 elections to NDA's performance. He has now serve the third front , including Chandrasekhara Rao's party to the same extent. What a fal for the Technology manl!
Telangana voters should not trust leader like Chandra Babu naidu who moved from Congress to TDP when Congress was sinking in 1982 and dethroned NTR founder in 1996 and now reciting Telangana to gain power in Andhra as he cannot fight Congress. If the voter wants Telangana he should vote for parties like BJP or TRS and not Congress and TDP or communists
TRS started this issue because Chandrasekhar Rao did not get a minister position in Naidu's govt. BJP adopted a resolution in Kakinada several years ago and forgot about it later. No one has any love for Telengana except to gain power to rule it.
as it became of chandigarh
For vote banks these politicians will barter the country. What will become of Hyderabad??
What kind of question .. Hyderabad was is and will be Telangana.May be vijawada/vizag will change their colors not Hyderabad. Telangana was used because Andhra were lacking capital which they carved from madras. Now time to restore respect of Telangana
