Summing up the debate on the Governor's address in the Assembly, the Chief Minister asked the Congress to come out of its overly defensive mould which had forced it to pivot its political philosophy and strategy around the vendetta slogan.
"The state and the government do not have even a minute to waste on politics of revenge. People have not voted for us to indulge in street fights, but to prepare and implement a comprehensive agenda for the bright future of the state," Badal said.
In his speech, which was punctuated by a walkout by the Congress, the Chief Minister declared that his government would focus entirely on development, eradication of poverty, unemployment and illiteracy.
"We are taking path-breaking measures to turn Punjab into highly-developed zone with a network of superhighways, expressways, over-bridges, flyovers and a chain of domestic and international airports. We are also determined to revamp the education sector through the Adarsh schools," Badal said.
Asking the Congress to play a pro-active role in the state's development, Badal said that healthy and constructive criticism was always welcome.
He warned the youth brigade on both the sides to beware of politicking for cheap personal glory.
On vendetta, Badal said, "No case has been registered against any Congress leader, including Capt Amarinder and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, by the present government. And I am willing to share official records with anyone who thinks otherwise," Badal said.
He also claimed that Capt Amarinder had not even spared his detractors within the party, like Bhattal and Partap Singh Bajwa.
On the contrary, he alleged that figures proved that even the children and women of SAD-BJP families were not spared by the previous regime. "But we are determined to put the past behind us and move ahead to make Punjab the number one global destination," he added.
He also blamed "systematic de-federalisation of polity" by the Congress for widespread poverty, illiteracy and lop-sided development in the country.
Questioning the claim of the previous government of bringing mega projects worth Rs 1.05 lakh crore, Badal said investments worth only Rs 8,500 crore were on ground, which was just 8 per cent of the total investment amount projected by the Congress government.
Showing concern at the poor economic condition of the farmers and mounting debt, Badal said Punjab farmers had not got their due share from the Centre despite the fact that it contributed 50 per cent of the total wheat and rice to the country's pool.
He demanded that MSP be linked with the consumer price index or be fixed 50 per cent higher than the calculated cost of production. He termed the loan waiver by the Centre for small and marginal farmers as too little too late.
He also highlighted the major initiatives taken by his government in the power and education sectors.
