Hair, who faces an employment tribunal today, claimed racial discrimination and harassment as reasons for the International Cricket Council dropping him from the Elite panel of Umpires.
The Australian had penalised Pakistan five runs on charges of ball tampering which precipitated one of the biggest crises in the history of the game when Pakistan eventually forfeited the Test.
Hair was barred from officiating major international matches following his actions in that game.
The ICC subsequently cleared Pakistan of ball-tampering but suspended their then captain Inzamam-ul-Haq for four ODI matches for bringing the game into disrepute.
"My life has been turned upside down, but I make no apologies," he told BBC One's Inside Sport
Hair will be counting on the support of former Test players Jimmy Adams and John Jameson when his battle to clear his name begins in the tribunal.
The 55-year-old is suing ICC for racial discrimination following their decision last November to ban him from standing in matches involving Test-playing nations.
Though Hair remains contracted as one of the ICC's elite umpires until next March, he has not stood in a senior international match since that Oval Test. He is claiming compensation for lost match fees at his employment tribunal, which is expected to last two weeks.
