Lifer for two; NRIs declared proclaimed offenders

Jalandhar, August 26: A local court sentenced two youths to life imprisonment and declared two NRIs 'proclaimed offenders,' while acquitting six others in connection with the murder of an elderly man in 2005 at Phillaur sub-division.

Of the 10 persons booked in the case, two Non-Resident Indians -- Sukhjiwan Singh and Inderjit Kaur -- were declared Proclaimed Offenders by the court.

Additional sessions judge B K Mehta sentenced Jasbir Singh alias Jassa (25) and Gurpeet Singh (24) to life imprisonment and acquitted Palwinder Singh, Rajwinder Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Hardeep Singh, Sukhjeet Singh and Kulwant Singh.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 each on the convicts.
