Ahmedabad A pride of lions killed a 28-year-old man near Babra village in Gir reserved forest area of Junagadh district, police said on Saturday.

A group of 5-7 lions attacked Rajesh Parmar and three of his friends when they were walking through the Babra-Virdi area in Mangrol taluka on Friday, they said.

Parmar, a resident of Magrol town, became the victim of the lions, that dragged him into the forest, police said. Hearing the cries of Parmar, villagers and forest officials rushed to the spot and managed to scare away the pride, which left him with serious injuries on his neck and other parts, they said.

The victim later succumbed to his injuries before he could be taken to the hospital, police said. The three others, identified as Jayesh Parmar, Digesh Parmar and Chandresh Solanki, however, managed to escape unhurt.

Meanwhile, a team comprising senior forest officials have arrived at the Babra-Virdi area in the Gir forest reserve to probe into the incident in detail, Range Forest Officer B H Vaghashiya said.
