The trip was planned by YUVSATTA in association with Belgaum Integrated Development Society (BIRDS), Belgaum, Karnatka and Akhil Bhartiya Rachnatmak Samaj, headed by senior Gandhian peace activist and MP Nirmala Deshpande.
The students visited places of historical importance and also meet local students in remote villages of Karnataka.
Vidhi Malik, a student of KB DAV-7 said, “We were initially apprehensive about staying in villages. We enjoyed the trip thoroughly. The local people were friendly and helpful.”
The students stayed in a Peace Camp at Tukkanatti village in Belgaum district of Karnataka. The students also held discussions on a number of issues with students in villages. Nikhil Thakur, a student of New Public School said that the visit to Raj Ghat and Gandhi Smriti and the meetings with Tara Gandhi Bhatacharjee; grand daughter of Mahatma Gandhi and Vice Chairperson of Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, Didi Nirmala Deshpande and Pawan Kumar Bansal , Union Minister of State for Finance was the best part of the tour .
Parmod Sharma, Yuvsatta coordinator said that Gandhiji believed in the spread of holistic education.DPI (S) SK Setia said students must make an effort to learn more about our heritage.
