New Delhi Smarting under Opposition attack over the issue of Lokpal Bill, Congress today insisted that the measure is not dead and will be back soon.

"The Lokpal Bill is certainly not dead. It is not even in ICU or emergency. It is merely under rest and recovery (R and R) and it will be back soon," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said.

A political war has broken out between government and Opposition over Rajya Sabha's failure to pass Lokpal Bill, with both sides accusing each of carrying out "well choreographed" chaos to scuttle it.

The assertion by the Rajya Sabha MP, who headed the Parliamentary Panel that went into the Lokpal Bill, comes a day after after Rahul Gandhi promised not to rest till a strong Lokpal Bill with constitutional status is brought.

Addressing a rally in Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh yesterday, Gandhi had hit out at the BJP for failure to give constitutional status to Lokpal. He insisted that this was not only his dream but that of the youth of the country and the Congress will not rest till it is achieved.

"We will not stop till we achieve constitutional status for the Lokpal," Gandhi had said.

The Congress general secretary had said that he felt "the strongest Lokpal will be one with constitutional status, but the opposition defeated it in the Lok Sabha".

Attacking the BJP, Gandhi had said, "those who used to talk about India Shining (in 2004) defeated a strong Lokpal Bill" that represented the aspirations of the country's youth.

"The BJP has openly stated that they had defeated the motion that would have given constitutional status to Lokpal because it was Rahul Gandhi's dream. It is not my dream alone, it is the dream of the youth of the country. We will not stop till we achieve constitutional status for the Lokpal," he had said.

Rahul a Shikhandi leader by Pal on 31 Dec 2011

Congress has a ulterior motive to bring this weak lokpal to save their top leaders. If Jan Lokpla is brought in then surely Sonia and Rahul along with Diggy-God will be behind bars.

Rahul the idiot. by Rao on 31 Dec 2011

lokpal bill to control state governments by Dr Mauni Singh on 31 Dec 2011

The current Sarkari Lokpal bill is to make Rahul Gandhi as strongest Dictator of country in future. Congress wants to control, blackmail and topple state governments using Lokpal and Lokayukt, as CBI was not enough for them. Rightly, it has been rejected. We the people want Janlokpal Bill of Anna to be passed with suitable legal amendments.

Lokpal fiasco by N. Sridharan on 31 Dec 2011

When there is an accident on the road, bystanders always support the person who shouts first, on the assumption that he is the victim and the other person is the offender. This is the strategy adopted by the Congress Party in respect of the Lokpal fiasco in RS. They have accused BJP of blocking the passage of the bill and being undemocratic and being anti-people and they have also claimed that their "langda" version of "toothless" Lokpal was meant to root out corruption and serve the aam aadmi. Listening to the defense of the bill by the Congress was disgusting. They had the court jester in the form of Lalu Yadav. What great sin the present generation of Indians must have committed in their past 14 births to have people like Lalu as our "Law Makers"

LOK PAL BILL IS NOT IN ICU by vijoy on 31 Dec 2011

The people of India have clearly understood the game plan of all politicians including the BJP after seeing tearing off a a copy of the bill by member of one of the less represented party in the house. He did it with impunity & no re4grets and no fear of admonition by any one present in the house. Why was a motion of expelling that great member Rajniti Singh not moved by anyone present, nor the chairman spoke a word against him. And I thought democracy functions due to majority or minority of the members present. With around 200 amendments proposed all could have been voted easily in the night itself to decide the fate of this Bill. Since no one wanted a strong effective LOK PAL/LOKAYUKTA all the activities & speeches in both the houses spoke volumes about their intentions and people saw it. Poor Annaji he was flummoxed by these politicians against whose vile activities, he awakened the country. It is now upto the people to elect patriotic, ethical, sincere & knowledgeable members.

FRAUD BY THE CONGRESS !! by SHIVRAM GOPAL VAIDYA on 31 Dec 2011

The Congress has lost its credibility, reliability and dignity over the Lokpal issue. They have created the Lokpal mechanism which cannot be accepted by any of the political party than the Congress. Now they are trying to blame BJP and other parties who have opposed the Congress Lokpal Bill. The Congress is the party of glorious tradition of 125 years and they have behaved like a party of criminals and goons and shown their colors in this Lokpal scene. They have cheated not only the people of the country but also the International communities who have decided to eliminate the corruptions within the ruling governments in various countries. The Congress must remember that they can make some people fool for all the time, all people fool for some time but they cannot make all the people fool at all the time !!

Irritating. by S L Gera on 31 Dec 2011

The Lokpal mess has not only wasted country's valuable time and money but has now become an irritant for the ears. Therefore, media must now stop any news about it till it comes to the Parliament again. There is no news in it now except the charges being levelled against each other and each party trying to be smarter than the other in interpreting the word "strong" in its favour. Let the guess work about Anna's next move and whether the amendments would be included, how various parties would react next time etc. be put to rest for some time. People have been fully aware of the happenings by now and there seems to be no need for research as to why the number of people at Anna's fast were less and if Anna's magic is losing ground. The media should now concentrate on electoral reform which Anna would have taken up had an effective Lokpal Bill been through.
