According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II of the Navi Mumbai police) Pravin Pawar, the incident occurred during the noon show of the film at Cineraj Theatre.
“The explosion was mild in nature and fortunately no one was killed or injured in the incident. In fact, all the people in the theatre did not even come to know about the blast,” said Pawar.
“The explosives were in a cardboard box with some nails in it. But it was mild in nature,” said Navi Mumbai Commissioner of Police Ramrao Wagh. He added: “The explosion took place under a seat in the theatre around 2 pm. The seat was damaged. Interestingly, the show continued after the explosion since it was not heard by other people in the theatre.” Pawar added that a forensics team and a dog squad surveyed the area soon after.
The movie Jodhaa Akbar has courted controversy with some groups in Rajasthan claiming that the storyline is historically incorrect.
“Since, the explosion was mild in nature, we suspect that this could be a protestor rather than any terror group. But at this point of time, it would be very premature to name somebody,” Wagh said.
