G K Mann, the counsel for the respondent, said, "The HC has taken a very strict view of the fact because the complainant had concealed the fact that a case of blackmailing is pending against her. The court has stated that she had not come to the court with clean hands and hence her security has been withdrawn."
The complainant is facing the law for allegedly blackmailing a senior Congress leader and former city mayor Nahar Singh Gill along with others, including Amrik Singh alias Prince. The case pertains to 2006 and the police officers named in the complaint had busted the blackmailing racket. The law suit in the said case is currently going on in a local court.
SHO Waryam Singh, who was present in the court during the proceeding and is also one of the four police officers named in the complaint said, "We had presented before the court that the complainant is facing charges of blackmailing in a two-year-old case .Apart from the security, the court has now asked the complainant's lawyer to file a reply on the issue as to why was this fact concealed from the court. This reply is to be submitted on July 7 when the case comes up for hearing." Going by the latest development, the HC's observation today has come has a bug sigh of relief for the Ludhiana police, which for over a month now is reeling under such charges.
