Madhusudan Krishna Kelkar, 92, known throughout the art world as MK Kelkar, has travelled extensively across India to find inspiration for his watercolour landscapes.
The snow-clad mountains in Kashmir, historic palaces in Rajasthan and the caves of Ellora feature in his work. He has written, illustrated and published two books including Wanderings of a Brush, which includes more than 100 watercolour paintings with tips for the amateur artist.
"Beautiful reflecting quiet waters of Kashmir lakes, rapid rivers, rough terrain and thundering waterfalls have always provided me with interesting subjects for landscapes," Kelkar told reporters in London.
"Different atmospheres created by clouds of different seasons are a challenge to the efficiency of a watercolourist's brush," Kelkar said.
Kelkar has previously hosted exhibitions in London, New York and Singapore. The exhibition at Darlington runs until May 10.
