Noida A 24-year-old MBA student was kidnapped and allegedly raped by a group of youngsters, five of whom were arrested by the police on Tuesday on a complaint filed by the girl's friend.

The girl was returning home with her friend in their car after shopping at Great India Palace mall in Sector 39 of Noida when the incident took place at around 5 pm on Monday in Sector 121, police said.

Five youngsters identified as Husain, Srikant, Sanjay, Sudhir and Gautam were arrested on Tuesday morning in connection with the case while police is on a hunt to nab five others who are believed to be involved in the crime.

All of them were picked up from Ramgarhi Choukandi village, where they reside, within 12 hours of committing the crime, Superintendent of Police (Noida City) Ashok Tripati said.

The accused were in the age group of 18 to 25 years and some were under-graduate students.

In an FIR lodged with Noida Police early Tuesday morning, the friend of the second-year MBA student, residing in South Delhi's Lajpat Nagar, claimed the motorcycle-borne youths waylaid them near a drainage.

"Amit Talwar, the friend, said that while they had travelled about 900 metres from the mall, some motorcyclists overtook them and waylaid them. They forcibly entered the car and one of them started driving," Tripati said, adding the youngsters were carrying cricket bats and wickets.

After driving for some time, the official said, the youngsters reached an isolated place where they allegedly raped the girl.

They left the girl and her friend there after taking away their mobile phones, he said.

However, Tripati claimed that the accused during questioning had told that the victim and her friend were not driving the car but were talking to each other when they intercepted them near the drainage.

"There has been some contradictions in the statement given by the complainant and that of the accused," Tripati said, adding they will investigate the matter.

Initial medical examination of the girl has revealed no internal injuries, Tripati said.

"We are waiting for the final pathological report. We will not spare anyone in this case as this crime is unpardonable," he said.

Asked how police zeroed in on the culprits, the senior police official said the youngsters were coming back after playing cricket and were carrying the cricket kit with them.

"We investigated which all are the local teams playing cricket and zeroed in on the suspects," Tripati said adding two motorcycles, cricket bats, wickets, helmets and three mobile phones were recovered from the accused.

He said the arrested youth have no past criminal records.

The victim is admitted to a hospital and her condition is stated to be stable.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on.

In New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Vikram Singh said police will ensure that all culprits will be booked.

"We have arrested five persons in this regard. We will ensure that all culprits are booked," Singh said on the sidelines of Chief Ministers Conference on internal security.

A test-identification parade of the accused is likely to be conducted on Monday, a senior police official said adding the accused have confessed to the crime.

Sanjay, one of the accused, claimed that one of their friends saw the girl and the man inside the car in an intimate position.

"We were ten people. We were returning after playing cricket. One of us saw the girl and the boy inside the car and then we forced ourselves inside the car," he said outside a court.

morality of younsters, where it is going? by salil on 07 Jan 2009

The incident shows how the morality of youngsters reaches the lowest level. whether on the part of accused who raped or on the part of those who usually used isolated place to satisfy their sexual desires. Both of them are the part of crime. But who will take responsibilty to eliminate these, whether only police activity is desirable or the society also should take some responsibility to eliminate these acts? This is the big question.

MBA Student gang raped by V V S Prasad on 07 Jan 2009

I think these people should be killed in an encounter. The people are advantange of thelax criminal justice system. It is shame that Delhi with a women chief minister is rape capital of the country.

rapes by k.madhukar on 07 Jan 2009

skewed sex ratio in northern states looks like one of the reasons for increasing rapes in that area.Apart from fighting this crime, the socialegists better give a hard look at this problem and sternly deal with those who practice female infanticide before birth

Sheila's Comments ? by Sriram on 07 Jan 2009

Sheila Dikshit will now probably say that the girl should not have been adventerous and goto a Mall. However Sheila dares to be so adventerous that she leads a political government in Delhi. I wonder how much experience she would have gone through in course!

Wake Up by Ria on 07 Jan 2009

I think we all should get together and make sure these rapists get punishment of the highest order. Be castrated, hung to death in public . No bail should be offered. This is a serious issue and the indian govt. needs to wake up and enforce stricter laws and quicker action. I believe Saudi Arabia should be taken as reference! Wake Up .... This is someones daughter, sister ... we need to fight !

Fight by Vijay on 07 Jan 2009

It is a shame. Is this what our culture teaches us. Indian women has always been looked up for her strength ideals. It is these few scoundrels who bring fear and taint the society. Women should not fear but come together and fight.

Its a Shame by Summer on 07 Jan 2009

I guess its been high time for the women of the country to rise and fight against such inhuman issues, its a shame that our goverment till date has not been able to come up with any strict punishment for such a heineous crime ,I think the girls should be taught self defence as a part of compulsory education and secondly strict laws.Hanging these criminals is an easy punishment for such people they should live their lives with disgust and shame and for that I think life imprisonment is ideal as they would live day and night repenting their misdeed because the victim will never be able to get over this incident her entire life .The Asian man also needs to change his mindset as women are not just sex toys they have more meaning and need lot of respect for bringing a man into this world. It is not only these youths who need to be punished but also we need to know what kind of upbringing they've had and also there should be a datbase with the name and pics of such culprits.

how to deal with rapists by siddharth on 07 Jan 2009

Extremely quick action by police and judiciary can stop such crime. Such case where some of the boys have accepted their involvement should be completed in a span of 30 days and maximum punishment should be awarded. Media should come up with name, addresses and pictures of these 10 boys so that society can deal with them and their families in a different way. Their faces should be advertised everywhere. Also, the girls should be helped to overcome such horrible incidence.

Look the matter bothways by Manish on 07 Jan 2009

These guys should not be taken lightly, if they have committed such crime. But what about those boys and girls who use isolated places and cars to satisfy their early age thirst. You can spot them anywhere in Parks, Isolated parking and where not.Aren't these people also responsible for spreading ILLEGAL THINGS in our society and making Indian culture westernized. I strongly support that these guys if convicted in court should be amputated, but such couples doing Flimsy acts should be beaten to death by PUBLIC.

Criminals by Dan on 07 Jan 2009

Hey hold on hold on let us see how this issue is going to be politicized first. Yes let us see what our great politicians has to say about so called law and order. Trust me nothing is going to happen to these guys as they are going to vote for these so called garbage and thug politicians. Just dont understand why Indians are not able to take laws in their own hands. India has got 1 billion polulation Just imagine how many police would be in that particular police station??? People should just get to gather and walk over who so ever refuses to hand them to public. Once public get hold of these so called 5 or 10 heros a proper treatment should be given to them. There are heaps of ideas which ppl themselves can invent for eg. water boarding, stoning, or worst come worst skinning them alive. I know this comment of mine is not going to be posted. But this is the way criminal should be treated. Ohh and criminal means I do include all POLITICIANS TOO. VANDE MATARAM

Capital Punishment by Piyush Arya on 06 Jan 2009

In this case all the people involved in the case should be tied to a pole in sector-18 and everybody should beat them until they all die..this is the best punishment which can be given to people doing rapes deliberately and knowing the consequences. Punishment should be so harsh that nobody in future can do the same crime.

Punish the criminals severely by S.Balakrishnan on 06 Jan 2009

Show no mercy to people who are accused of raping women. India is getting a bad name with this. These people should be treated befitting their crime and punished severly. There should be no mercy for people who committs this type of crime.

Truth and Justice MUST Prevail by Pankaj on 06 Jan 2009

This is a henious crime and how much society today abhor it is all visible from comments. It should be dealt strongly and severly. But then by same measure, any false implication on such henious crime is equally if not more henious but how strong are the laws to deal with it? The verdict is out by everyone that the accused are actually culprits and should be hanged, stoned to death - Do not bother if they really are culprit or not, why bother you would get some brownie points and self gratification. You should think how would you feel is your own sister/mother is really a victim of such act BUT you should also think how would you feel if your Brother/Son/Father is innocent and implicated of Rape charges - would you still blindly comment stone them to death - no no need to verification and finding facts? Finally if it comes out that the accused were totally innocent and should not all the fanatics who are crying for Hanging/Stoning to death be met with same fate??

CAPITAL PUNISHMENT by ManofGod on 06 Jan 2009

PEOPLE OF CRIMINAL BACK GROUND SHOULD BE JAILED. GIVE THEM NO FREEDOM. ILLETERACY IS HIGH IN INDIA. AND VALUES ARE VERY LOW. MORRALITY HAS BEEN IN RUIN. TRUST IN THE GOVERNMENT AND AMONG PEOPLE ARE VERY LOW. IT IS UNSAFE TO TRAVEL ON ROADS ANYTIME. PEOPLE ARE BEHAVING WORST THAN ANIMALS. THEY HAVE NOT SEEN LIGHT. WHAT THEY WATCH AND WHAT THEY READ IS ALSO IMPORTANT. BOLLYWOOD MOVIES ARE ENCOURAGING SUCH THINGS. THEY ARE THE QUEEN OF FILTH. BRING LAW AND PROSECUTE ALL POLTICAL CRIMINALS WHO SUPPORT SUCH CRIME. GOONDAS AND PETY THIECES MUST BE BEHIND BAR. CAPITAL PUNSHIMENT MUST BE IMPOSED.

MBA student gangraped in Noida, by Joe on 06 Jan 2009

All the guilty of this shameless crime needs to be hanged at a public square without any mercy. Hope our law enforcement agency and judiciary delivers quick and honest justice to the victims. Where is our culture and respect for our women gone. All women groups in India should react to this shameless crime strongly including the Women leaders. God please help us.

Social justice by P.Kulandavelu on 06 Jan 2009

Arresting and giving punishment is not enough, because punishment may be 7 years RI. After punishment is announced by court, all the news papers must publish the culprits photos and the details of the punishments. But victim's name can be changed, they need not give the real name.If photos of the culprits come in all news papers all over india,it will be a big shame for those fellows. After such publishing, these kind of crime will surely come down. All news papers co operation is needed. It is one kind of social justice also.

funny responses by ramdas on 06 Jan 2009

the responses of hanging/cutting private parts etc are in the same range as the crime commited.there is a law and punishment for rape.its basically the broughtup of this indls which takes the maximum blame.ther was a incidence of a girl raped by presidents bodyguard some time back. they were the top among the trained soldiers of army.the attitude to see a girl with a boyfriend as someone who can be raped upon is the same as the honour killings which persists till date in this country.the children should be educated that male and female r the same and both have the same feelings and rights. the attitude of the surfers will change and will start lecturing on morals if it was reported that the pair were found in an compromising position when they were attacked.there is a rape happening every 45 seconds and the conviction rate is less than 2%if all the rapists r given 7 yrs or life imprisonment in case of gang rape it will serve the purpose than inhuman punishments.
