Ludhiana, April 10 In order to generate more revenue for the department, the Municipal Corporation has finally made up its mind to collect advertisement tax from private building owners, who display big hoardings on their buildings and rake in money.

Meanwhile, the tehbazari branch today removed illegal advertisements from unipoles on a few roads in the city. The operation was carried out on the directions of Zonal Commissioner (Zone D) Kuldeep Singh.

The tehbazari wing removed 10 such big advertisements near Jagraon Mata Mandir. Advertisements were also removed from Bharat Nagar Chowk and Model Town where hoardings were put up without taking any permission from the MC.

The department plans to carry out more such drives in the city in the near future.

Meanwhile, a total of 245 unipoles have been sanctioned by the MC on six roads and advertisers are paying between Rs 5,000 and Rs 16,000 per month.

The MC commissioner while presenting the budget last month had asked such building owners to seek permission from the MC before booking any site.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that private building owners are charging between Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000 per month from advertisers for displaying their advertisements.

Hence, the MC has asked them to present their bids to the department before booking any site in the near future.
