Chandigarh, January 28 Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh has passed a Rs 4.14-crore proposal to extend the Sector 17 Plaza up to Madhya Marg and to develop a mini amusement park for children. This will ensure that the neglected areas of Sector 17 (A and B in particular) get a facelift. In addition to this, Rs 1.57 crore will be spent on widening the peripheral roads of Sector 17.

The MC cleared the proposal in its House meeting on Monday.

According to the proposal, the Plaza will be extended from the General Post Office up to the CITCO building. The space near the bridge will developed as a green area and amusement park for children. As part of the initiative, the area will get new lights, sewerage system and concrete flooring.

It has been a common complaint that Sector 17 (A and B) do not have toilets which is an inconvenience for visitors. There is a proposal to construct two toilet blocks on a Build-Operate-Transfer basis.

The House also approved widening of the peripheral roads of Sector 17. According to the proposal, the stretch between Hotel Taj and SBI will be widened by 44 feet, the one between SBI to Fire Station (dual carriageway) will be widened by 30 feet on each side and Hotel Shivalikview to Hotel Taj (dual carriageway) will be widened by 22 feet on each side.

While tenders for the construction of a multi-level parking for 1,400 vehicles have already been allotted to a Delhi-based company, the administration recently proposed more multi-level parking sites in Sector 17.

Mayor Pardeep Chhabra said another multi-level parking will come up in Sector 17 (A and B).
