Chandigarh, January 16 After their weeklong study tour of Singapore and Bangkok, the councillors and officials of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh have decided to create a Garden for Blind people in the city.

The MC team had gone on an official tour to Singapore and Bangkok to study parks, parking lots, roads and other civic amenities. The proposal has come under fire by councillors, who had not participated in the tour.

The councillors claim that instead of focusing on such projects, the MC must try to create projects for better management of parking and for easing congestion on city roads.

Many MC officials and councillors supported the proposal for the creation of the park. Sanwaria said that the blind persons would be able to experience the fragrance of the plants only by touching them.

He said that Braille and an audio-guiding system would also be installed at the park to help the blind people.

“The project will be developed on nearly two acres of land. The project will cost only Rs 25 lakh,” he added.
