Chandigarh, February 25 The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has decided to construct pedestrian pathways around the parks located along V-6 roads and in front of residential houses and colonies. There are around 1,500 parks under the jurisdiction of the MC and the project will be carried out in a phased manner. In the first phase, the MC plans to spend Rs 4 crore on the project.

The MC mooted the proposal after it was revealed that residents were facing parking problems due to lack of adequate space. In order to provide better parking facilities in the residential areas of the city, six feet wide path would be constructed around parks along V-6 roads.

According to the MC officials, railings around the parkings will be squeezed back for the purpose if required.

“The Department of Urban Planning has also supplied the planning for providing six feet wide pedestrian pathways around the parks, which will serve the purpose of vehicle parking for the free flow of traffic on internal roads,” Mayor Pardeep Chhabra said. He added that the MC has already provided interlocking paver blocks around 291 parks.
