MC undertakes plantation drive

Chandigarh, July 25 Mayor Pardeep Chhabra inaugurated a plantation drive today in a park in Sector 33 by planting saplings of trees.

The Municipal Corporation has a target of planting 8,352 trees, 15,104 Shrubs and 674 climbers and creepers along the roads, parks, green belts, and rehabilitation colonies in City Center Sector 17, Manimajra Complex and Dadumajra dumping grounds. The Horticulture Division has already planted 1,950 trees including 6,125 shrubs and 540 climbers upto June 30, and the remaining target will be achieved by the end of August.

Addressing the gathering, the Mayor said that after the plantation it was not only the duty of the Horticulture Division employees to look after the plants but also of the residents.

Executive Engineer, Horticulture Department, Arun Kumar Kansal said that flowering shrubs and ornamental trees will be planted to make parks, gardens and green belts more people friendly.
