He said, "We are currently in the developmental stage with our in-house R&D and design capabilities. Our objective is to become a full-fledged two-wheeler player and we are looking at launching products, which will cater to all the segments. We are even considering to enter the electric two-wheeler market, may be through an acquisition, but in future," Mittal said.
Mittal, who was in Chennai on Wednesday to launch two 125 cc scooter models, Rodeo and Duro, said: "We don't want to be compared with anyone in the industry. We position ourselves as a credible player with a DNA of 'rough & tough' and stylish. The new launches in September-end helped us report higher sales volume in October with 7,000 units, including 5,000 units of just launched Rodeo and Duro. We hope the sales figure will go up in future."
To a specific question whether the company will bring in any new technology partner for motorcycles, Mittal said: "No. Unlike scooters, where we have Taiwan-based Sanyang Industry Company as its technology partner, the company will look at manufacturing motorcycles with its strong in-house R&D and engineering capabilities. Our Italian subsidiary, Engines Engineering, will design the body and engine among other things. M&M solely will manufacture the bikes.”
