New Delhi, November 6: In the wake of Raj Thackeray-led MNS party's hate campaign against North Indians and non-Marathis, the Supreme Court on Thursday struck a patriotic note by saying that ‘all of us are Indians’ and there is no difference between people coming from various regions.

"What's the difference between North Indians and Indians. All of us are Indians," a Bench of Justices B N Aggrawal and G S Singhvi quipped, while posting for Monday, a PIL seeking judicial inquiry into the killing of a Bihari youth Rahul Raj in a police encounter and the murder of another North Indian in Mumbai last month.

On Tuesday the apex court had observed that if there was a ‘political will’ such hate campaign would not occur in the country. It had also cited Article 355 to drive home the point that the Union Government had adequate powers to give necessary directions to the State to prevent such incidents.

The Bench of Justices Aggrawal and Singhvi said it would hear the matter along with another related PIL which had earlier sought appropriate directions to the Government to ensure that the country's unity was not threatened by vested interests fomenting regional chauvinism.

Incidentally, the apex court had directed the petitioners in both cases to suitably amend their petition and come before it when the matter is taken up for further hearing.

During the brief arguments on Thursday, the petitioner Sanjeev Kumar Singh submitted that he was compelled to approach the Supreme Court as the authorities in Maharashtra had failed to respond to his request for providing adequate protection to North Indians in the state.

Regionalistic and Linguistic terrorism have arrived to haunt India by Mrs Bhanumati on 06 Nov 2008

In Bombay 95% jobs has been captured by Marathis in state government and 90% in central government by Dadagiri of Shiv Sena and MNS. Outsiders are involved in small own business like selling vegetable, milkmen, taxi driver, auto rickshaw pullers, and bhangaar shop etc. There should be equal distribution of jobs and no reservation based on Marathism. Marathi police is siding with Marathi manoos. In Malad, Bombay MNS men of Raj Thackeray cut one leg and one ear of hindi news paper "Nirbhai Patheek" journalist in front of police. Such police should be handed over to Military. We hindi speaking people are living under constant fears since decades. Law and order should be taken over by central government and should not remain in the hands of Marathi police.

Stop the double standard and hypocracy and think for the country by Jay on 06 Nov 2008

If someone can convince me that huge cultural and linguistic diversity India now has is a bad thing and we should make India a homogenous society (like USA) and abolish all this diversity, then I will fully support to punish Raj T. On the contrary, caste based social division is also a long tradition among Indian Hindus. All sensible people do agree that caste system is a curse for the society and we should get rid of that. But the steps we took (caste based reservation) will never do it but is strengthening that social curse. Can anyone see the difference? We are not doing what we should do in case of caste; religion based social division, but is not doing what we should do to preserve our cultural diversity and prosperity.

renaming the city by richard on 06 Nov 2008

Anyhow this city has been renamed from Bombay to Mumbai. Now it is time to rename it again as Thackeray City. If Thackerays say something is not permissible in this city, somehow it gets stopped. Now they should stop all these agitations and start fresh agitation to get this city renamed again as a memorial of their power over this city. Maharashtra government should think of raising a memorial much higher than that of Shivaji Maharaj at a prominent place.

Everyone used the same tactics in Indian politics. Now why blame Raj? by Jatin on 06 Nov 2008

Moreover, people from Maharashtra will choose their own leaders to rule them, not some crooks from UP-Bihar. Maharastrians are not poking their nose in the dirty politics of Bihar, then why should Bihari leaders and people be allowed to dictate who should rule MH and how it should be ruled! It’s becoming clear that each and every party in MH do support Raj’s agenda, else they can not survive in politics. It’s the same action Bihari, UP, Tamil and almost all the politicians adopted while supporting caste based reservation and now it’s not only useless but hypocritical to oppose Raj’s demand.

Should we allow everyone in our house? NO by Jay on 06 Nov 2008

India is not like USA or Australia where indigenous people were sidelined long ago and immigrants established their rule, resulting from an almost homogenous society. India has a long tradition of rich and diverse culture. The best way forward for India is to protect this rich diversity of language and culture. Every state should have the right to welcome some people from other states whom THEY think is in the best interest of their state, not each and everyone from different culture, speaking different language. Now it’s upto those immigrants to assimilate into the local culture if they like to settle there. This is also true for Indians migrating abroad. I did not come to US to enrich US culture or economy, but for my own interest and the same is true for others in US (from India) or Biharis in MH. It’s upto MH (or US) to remain attractive to others to get required manpower, not the other way round.

SC has openly and correctly stated.... by DHARAMNAL on 06 Nov 2008

Sir, the SC has very correctly stated " All of us are Indians". The duty of the law agencies is to protect every of its citizen from every religion or caste, but indications are that this is not happening as the presumed criminals are walking scot free.

Does democracy means abandoning my own culture and prosperity? NO by Jatin on 06 Nov 2008

People from other states must not be forced to pay high price for total anarchy and lack of development in states like Bihar and UP. Patriotism and democracy does not mean abandoning the right to protect local people, local culture, language, local way of life and encouraging changing demography and worsening law and order situation and economy and quality of life. Regulated migration should be the way, not uncontrolled migration even within a country.

Protect cultural diversity and that's the best way forward for the country by Jay on 06 Nov 2008

Be assured that Maharashtra is not the first and surely will not be the last local uprising against uncontrolled migration for Bihar-UP. There is sign that Punjab may be the next stage. Uncontrolled migration in many states like Assam, Tripura, West Bengal has changed the demography, economy, living standard for local people. Working condition, wage structure and law and order has deteriorated due to such uncontrolled migration of unskilled and semi-skilled people. India needs to enact laws to protect local culture and implement a true federal democracy where states have more power. The best way forward for a culturally diverse country like India is to acknowledge its diversity and protect that. I hate to speak Hindi or English in many hotels, restaurants, and airport in my own state of Bengal. Business establishments must employ people who can speak local language, at least. If I am not happy with Hindi onslaught, then I will support any political leader who exploits that.

political will by MANISH on 06 Nov 2008

IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN POLITICAL WILL SUCH INCIDENTS WOULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED.THE ALLIANCE POLITICSS AND COALIATION POLITICS IS HAVE ITS PITFALLS.THE CONGRESS IS A NATIONAL PARTY AND NCP IS A REGIONAL BASED PARTY.THE ALLIANCE BEWTEEN THEM IS MARRIAGE WITHOUT LOVE.THE NCP WANTS THAT REGIONAL CHAUVANISM WOULD BRING HIM TEHVOTES FROM TEH PEOPLE.BUTTHE FACT IS TAHT INDIAN VOTERS ARE MORE MATURE NOW.THEY DONOT ENCOURAGE SUCH TENDENCIES WHICH ENCOURAGED HATRED AMONG INDIANS.INDIA IS ONE COUNTRY AND THE PEOPLE WHEREEVER THEY LIVE ARE INDIANS.THE REGIONAL CHAUVANISM NEED TO BE DEALT WITH STRONGLY OTHERWISE THE COUNTRY WOULD BE BREAK IN PARTS AND REGIONS.THE CIVIL WAR WOULD ENGULF THE WHOLE COUNTRYA ND THE FOREIGNERS WOULD AGAIN RULE.IF THE INDIANS WOUDL EB ONE NO POWER ON EARTH WOULD MAKE INDIA AGAIN THEIR SUBJUGATE.BUT THE FACT IS TAHT THE ALLIANCE POLITICS IS EATING ALL THE ETHOS OF INDIAN NESS.INDIA NEEDS A STRONG GOVT OF SUCH NATIONALIST PARTIES SO THAT THE DIVISIVE FORCES GET OUST.

Supreme Court should act now by Mrs Bhanumati on 06 Nov 2008

We need action from Supreme Court and not advice. The virus of regionalism and marathism has been infected in Marathi Police and they never punish marathi criminals. Why not Raj Thackeray has been shot by police ?You probably do not know that Shiv Sena/MNS are more dangerous than Pakistan and China because Marathi police backs them. Shiv Sena and MNS has lakhs of followers who are Tadeepars, Mafia dons, rapists, extortionists and dreaded criminals.Bombay police constable collects "Hafta" monthly Installment illegal money from North Indians and distribute amongst Shiv Sena/MNS, Thackerays, Marathi Police, and Congressi corrupt leaders. That is why no one is arresting Thackeray criminals.Bombay Marathi Kai Baap Kaa Nahee. If Marathis continuous their tirade against Hindi Speaking Hindus and India, crores of North Indians will step in Maharashtra to teach them lesson.Separation of Bombay is the only solution to rescue it from the clutches of anti-national and traitor Marathis.
