The crisis over reference of 'disorderly conduct' of 32 MPs to Privileges Committee of the Lok Sabha blew over on Monday with Speaker Somnath Chatterjee deciding to withdraw the move.

"I have decided to reconsider the matter and I shall withdraw the same," Chatterjee announced bringing down the curtain on the six-day-old controversy that followed his unprecedented action.

The withdrawal followed both Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee and Leader of the Opposition L K Advani assuring the Speaker of full cooperation in smooth running of the House.

Mukherjee as also Advani urged the Speaker to reconsider the reference following which Chatterjee thanked them for their "kind assurance".

"Smooth running of the House is my only concern," he observed amid demands from RJD leader Devendra Prasad Yadav that he should reveal who had sought apology at the all-party meeting convened by the Speaker.

This was objected to by BJP Deputy Leader V K Malhotra amid protests from Opposition Benches.

Echoing Yadav's views, JD(U)'s Prabunath Singh said the Speaker should reveal whether any member has tendered an apology.

"There is no question of apology," the Speaker said, downplaying the claims and maintaining that there is no question of retribution.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav complained that some news channels had flashed the news of the understanding reached at the all-party meeting and urged the Speaker to take note of this.
