Pune, May 8 Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has made amends for wrongfully deducting Rs 1,85,000 towards electricity charges from the bank account of Shirish Bodhani, a stall owner at Prabhat Road.

The utility has already returned Rs 1,53,000 but Bodhani is now planning to file a case in the consumer court to get back Rs 32,000.

Bodhani had been paying his electricity bills through Electronic Clearing System (ECS). Bodhani said, "My average electricity bill is Rs 400 per month. But Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited charged me extraordinary amounts. As I had availed Electronic Clearing System , the MSEDCL directly cut the amount from my bank account. When I came to know about it, I went to the officials of the Deccan branch and made them aware of the same. After repeated reminders, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited finally gave me a cheque of Rs1,53,000 recently."

Complaining that the MSEDCL had not refunded the full amount, Bodhani said, "I am filing a case in consumer court to get back my remaining amount." He also pointed out that when he filled the form for ECS, he had mentioned about maximum amount to be drawn from his account towards electricity bill.

"There is a provision in the Electronic Clearing System form, where customer can mention a maximum amount to be drawn from his account. I had conveyed to the bank (Bank of Maharashtra) to let me know, when the amount of the bill gets more than Rs 1,500. Thus, it is a laxity on the part of the bank also. I am also thinking of taking this point to the consumer court," he said.
