Kolkata, June 20 The West Bengal Madrasah Service Commission today declared the results of the examination for the recruitment of teachers to fill up the vacancies in 506 madrasas in the state. The commission had advertised for 1,422 seats and 1,376 candidates could qualify for the examination. The commission could not find the required number of candidates in biology, physiology, economics and chemistry.

According to commission chairman Osman Gani, only 5,754 students appeared for the examination because of the misconception that only Muslim candidates can apply for the posts.

He added that the panel would try to publicise the fact that candidates from all communities can take the exam, qualify in it and teach in the madrasas from now on. This would ensure that there are enough candidates appearing for the examination, he said.

Abdus Sattar, the minister for minority development and madrasah education, said that the School Service Commission, which used to conduct the examination before the formation of the Madrasa Service Commission would advertise for about 6,000 seats. He added that the panel has advertised for 1,400 seats so that the students do not face any crunch of teachers in mid session.
