Mumbai Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has said that he did not support the pub culture, but it was not an issue that was worth the fuss.

"It's not that I support pub culture. But we need to pay more attention to security and other important issues," Chavan said in Mumbai when asked to comment on Mangalore incident.

He assured that if any organisation tries to attack pubs in the state, "police will take care of it”.

He stated that in the wake of recent terror attacks, "security was more important than pubs or dance-bars”.

The previous government of Vilasrao Deshmukh had come under flak for its decision to ban dance bars in Mumbai.

Chavan was talking to reporters during a function organised to hand-over documents related to petrol pumps' dealership to the family members of policemen and NSG commandos who died fighting terrorists in Mumbai.

The function was held at the official Sahyadri guest house.

Woman and Pub by SV Sivasubrahmaniam on 01 Feb 2009

If politicians feel "Pub Culture" is bad and its running poses security threat, bloody ban them. Why discrimination for the entry for girl or woman. Why pub should be "entitled" for men only? Because we are still male dominated society? Instead of punishing the heinous culprits like that at Mangalore pub, talking else is bullshit. One has to agree the times are changing, the women are getting educated and they also want the freedom like that of men. We the society has the moral responsibility to honor their wishes. Woman going to such public entertainment place is not immoral. And any immorality is a case specific, and imagining any such thing is because of them is a noting but insulting our women. So let us honour them and their wishes. Again the right of entry in to those entertainment places should be at her sole discretion only, but should not be deprived by so called "moral policing". ANY THING NOT GOOD FOR WOMAN IS NOT GOOD FOR MAN ALSO. Let we male society honour our women.

yeah chavan u are right and i appreciate your stand on the pub issue, in the worlds largest democracy let there be no-one to assert their own views on the people, let the people decide what is in their best intrest, nd if that is how they want to live their life , so be it.make the cops do their duty instead of turnin a blin eye, as thats what they been paid for and not take sides, neil
