Kuala Lumpur, December 8: Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has warned the ethnic Indians that they could be held under the Internal Security Act if their actions threatened national interest and asked the police to monitor their movements.

Abdullah's warning came following allegations by authorities that the members of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), which is spearheading the anti-government agitation against the alleged marginalisation of ethnic Indians, are linked with 'terrorists' groups including LTTE.

"My instructions to the police is that the group should be monitored. Internal Security Act is an option. I will decide when the time is right. If they are deemed (as a threat to national security) we will know what to do," the New Straits Times quoted Abdullah as saying.

ISA allows for years of detention without trial.

Abdullah, who is also the Internal Security minister, said he was aware of Hindraf canvassing for support and help from terrorist groups and local gangsters.

Meanwhile, a senior leader in the Prime Minister's Department has said the Malaysian Government had Sri Lanka's LTTE and India's RSS as the overseas groups linked to Hindraf.

Mohamed Nazri Aziz was quoted by the Star newspaper as saying that this was deduced from statements of Hindraf leaders, who went abroad to garner support, that they would meet LTTE leaders.

"As we know, the LTTE has been declared a terrorist group by the United Nations and the United States. If it is true that Hindraf leaders have links with them, Hindraf is also a terrorist group," he said.

The paper did not make any further reference to Nazri's comments on RSS.

The country's police chief Musa Hassan was reported to have said on Friday that there were signs lately that Hindraf was trying to garner support from terrorist groups.

He said Hindraf had also set up a fund by misleading the public into believing that the money was to finance its activities.

Opposition party DAP leader Karpal Singh felt that Hindraf leaders should be given the opportunity to explain the reasons behind the demonstration.

He added that the presence of thousands of Indians at the demonstration was cause for concern and reason enough to assume that the problems of the community ought to be addressed, the Star reported.

Meanwhile, the Sultan of Selangor said Hindraf's actions had incited hatred and damaged Malaysia's image by taking its campaign overseas.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said he was unhappy at Hindraf supporters carrying banners and pictures of Queen Elizabeth II during the recent protests.

"Why were they displaying her pictures and asking her to intervene in Malaysia? They can always bring their case to the Government and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong," he told the Star newspaper.

The paper said the Sultan urged his subjects to be rational and moderate, saying that racial tolerance had always been a trademark of Malaysia.

India should go to rescue Malaysian Hindus by Anonymous on 09 Dec 2007

Arabization of Malaysia seems to be happening at a maddening pace! India should immediately take measures to rescue Malaysian Hindus. We need to adopt a program of upliftment over a period, wherein we can accelerate the development of Malaysian Hindus. Development and higher education will mean they can go in search of a better home, may be even India.

Malysian Indians by Anand Babu on 09 Dec 2007

We all know Malaysian Indians are Not Indian citizens. They are Malaysians first then related to India through the ethnicity. They are our brothers. As being from the mother country, we Indian citizen have a moral right to support them in the time of need. This is not expecting something in return. Just feeling pity for them, generations ago they were transported there with out their wish. It could have happened to any one of us. Just be sympathetic.

ethnic indians in Malaysia by raj shanti on 09 Dec 2007

I really do not understand why are we so concern about ethnic indians in Malaysia. Just becos they are Hindus!! Go and talk to any ethnic indians in Malaysia and you will get a shock to hear them saying proudly that they are not indians by Malaysian. I am a frequent visitor of Malaysia and whenever I spoke to any ethnic indian taxi driver, they always say that they are not indians by Malaysian. It is sad that we want to prosecute Indian Muslims who are citizen of India and proudly boast their belonging to india, and wants to show concern for ethnic indians who blantly to disown india.

Treatment of Hindus by Khandu Patel on 09 Dec 2007

There are no other people like the Hindus who have preferred to keep their ethnicity even after many generations. That is certainly the case with the Malaysians Hindus. That in my mind entitles them to a home in Bharat. It is right that as people living abroad Hindus should not live in backward looking enclaves. The Malaysian Governments argument of them as Malaysian citizens falls because they practice a policy of victimising them. A representative of the Hindu community in the Malaysian government himself has complained of the plight of Hindus in Malaysia. The Malaysian Government's actions speak for themselves for the vile acts that they are. Nothing but their conversion to would satisfy the Malaysian government. The People of Indian Origin card recognise their rights as Indians, and it behoves any government of India to ignore their plight. With the Gujarat elections, the so-called secularist UPA government has shed she crocodile tears for Malaysian Hindus. Nothing would please be more than to see the UPA get a bloody nose in the Gujarat elections. This would herald the easing of the UPA from Government at the centre. Never again should we have to suffer the likes of the UPA Government.

Treatment to Tamils by Joseph on 09 Dec 2007

India should not ignore the pleas of the Indians in MALAYSIA.The Protest is shaken the Malaysian Government. They have for the past 50 years ignored the Indians and treated them as DIRT.One could see in all Departments in Malaysia the monopoly of One Race.Promotions in to Senior Positions is Ignore and Frustration. The Tamils are the worst victims. They have tolerated for the 50 Years. Its the Younger Generation who has waken UP.Similar Protests by other Groups were let off the HOOK.WHY this Protest by the TAMILS be given a HARSH TREATMENT by putting them in Jails without Bail.Tamil Nadu should use pressure to the Central Government of India to come into assistance. Please dont IGNORE.

Subjugation of minorities by muslims by Jitu on 09 Dec 2007

Why is it that whereever muslims are in a majority, other minorities are subjugated and islam becomes the state religion. And when indian muslims can agitate and hold voilent demonstrations in india to show "solidarity" with palestinians/bosnian muslims etc, why shouldnt indian hindu's similarly support fellow hindu's elsewhere.

Fishing to find linkage to terrorist groups wont help = It is important to listen to the people by S.Nalakrishnan on 09 Dec 2007

Fishing to find links to terrorist groups will not help the situation. What needs to be done is to talk to the people rather than claim preposterous links to outside groups. When so many Indian origin people join in the demonstration it cannot be all due to terrorist connection and the legitimate grievances have to be heard rather than dismissed summarily. To link LTTE (secular Tamil group with lots of Christians amidst them) and RSS a north indian group that has limited presence in the Tamil community is clearly fishing. Malaysian Government will do well to listen to the people of Indian origin in their midst and resolve the issue fairly.

India should isolate Islamic Terrorist nation Malaysia by Mrs Bhaanumati on 09 Dec 2007

The current UPA government is islamic and Tamilians are also Islam friendly as they hate hindus. We nationalist hindus are with Tamilians but we are helpless because UPA government will not annoy its indian muslim vote banks by taking tough stands on Islamic rogue and terrorist country Malaysia. India should work through USA to isolate Islamic fundamentalist country Malaysia because weak india do not have power to deal with Malaysia as we couldn't deal with Pygmies Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Malaysian PM warns of ISA against ethnic Indians by Jitu on 08 Dec 2007

How ironic. Hindu's are in a minority in malaysia and so are sigjugated and in india, where muslims are in a minority and yet hold the entire country to ransom and go on a rampage over any matter concerning muslims anywhere over the globe. What conclusions can one draw from this?

Malaysian Government's deceitful motives by Suresh on 08 Dec 2007

MY view is that the Malaysian government had decided to arrest Hindraf leaders under the ISA but in order to prevent international out-cry especially from the western powers, they are trying to link this social activists to terrorism (Tamil Tigers). Hindraf, in fact is helping the government to prevent the poor Indians from becoming lured to terrorism by hightlighting their plight and asking the government to stop all kind of victimization that had been inflicted to the Indians for the last 50 years.

Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi following Al-Queda philosophy by Veera Popuri on 08 Dec 2007

Dear MR.Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Muslim laws are with you, but not the morality. Do not follow the Muslim philosophy to frame charges against your opponents to crush, like another Muslim country like Pakiland does, but follow the democratic values in framing the charges against your opponents.
