New Delhi/Pune, November 21: National Security Advisor M K Narayanan assured senior BJP leader L K Advani that allegations of torture and brutality levelled by Malegaon blast accused 'Sadhvi' Pragya Singh Thakur against Mumbai ATS will be investigated, BJP sources said.

Narayanan met Advani on Friday evening to brief him on the Malegaon investigation and to deal with the apprehensions expressed by the BJP leader in his telephone conversation with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday.

"Advani told the NSA that his charges against the ATS were confined to and based on the details mentioned by Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur in her court affidavit. He clarified that it had nothing to do with the investigation," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said after the meeting.

Narayanan reportedly assured Advani that Thakur's allegations against ATS would be investigated.

Intelligence Bureau chief P C Haldar and former IB Director Ajit Doval were also present during the 40 minute meeting.

Advani had on Tuesday questioned the need for conducting so many narco-analysis tests on Pragya Singh Thakur. He had also stated that no lady police personnel was present during these tests.

Subsequent to this statement by Advani, the Prime Minister called him on Thursday to discuss the issue. He then decided to send Narayanan to brief Advani.

ATS threatened to eliminate me in encounter: Purohit

Prime accused in Malegaon blast case Lt Col Srikant Prasad Purohit on Friday made a written submission in a court in Pune alleging that Mumbai ATS threatened to eliminate him in an encounter and tried to extract confession from his under duress.

Purohit, remanded in 14-day judicial custody by Magistrate G G Italekar in a 2003 case of alleged forgery in procuring an arms license for one Milind Date in Pune from J&K, sat in the court room to write his grievances after the judge asked him whether he had any complaints regarding his two-day police remand which expired on Friday.

"I have no complaints against Pune police. But I want to submit in writing my grievances," he said. Purohit's advocate Srikant Shivde told the court that the accused did not want to air his grievances in an open court and would prefer to put them in writing.

The contents of Purohit's written submission were informed by his lawyer to the media afterwards.

Malegaon Blast..... by A.A.Choudharia on 22 Nov 2008

The ATS is surely being used to defame the opposition. Congress NCP government could go to any extent to grab power. It is really shameful that this Congress led Central Government has ruled this country for so many years and brought in this country such a detestable stat of affairs. While asserting that they have concrete proof in Malegaon blast case, in the Court they are defeated on every piece of evidence. This is Indian Democracy!

Malegaon arrests by mohanan on 21 Nov 2008

Politics can play any dirty games in India.Especially when few states are going to polls .What if ATS could not find any thread of evidence to prove the guilt? They have MCOCA with them now - a free hand to create evidences and witnesses as they want ! Tamil Nadu's ex.Chief Minister Jayalalitha's high drama against Shankaracharya is coming to my mind. Our political set up is so dirty that thay can play any thing. Indian public are dump. And ofcourse suddenly SIMI and other all other outfits may turn Holy!

MALEGON INVESTIGATIONS by N.V.SANKARAN on 21 Nov 2008

The ATS has already invoked MCOCA which was expected right from the beginning. Now, the ATS can keep the accused under custody for six months without even filing a charge-sheet or trial. By that time the next elections may be over. I have been under the impression that whenever a serving defense personnel, especially a high ranking officer is suspected of committing any crime, the civil authorities have no authority to arrest and question the accused without explicit permission from the Military. Instead, they should apprize the defense forces with evidences about the culpability of the accused. The defense forces conduct an independent investigation and then hands over the accused to the civil authorities if they are convinced of the crime. But, in Lt. Col. Purohit's case, it seems the whole process was reversed. The ATS first gave wide publicity for the case and ensured that the Military authorities remain silent due to fear of adverse publicity. If the ATS really has the required proof, why should they slap MCOCA on the accused. They could have them convicted directly.

UPA Conspiracy! by VIKRAM on 21 Nov 2008

Advani's pressure to release terrorists by Shankaran Nair on 21 Nov 2008

What is troubling Advani. Whether he has been charged with terrorist activities? It is clear from his utterances and actions which is uncalled for that he is trying to save the terrorists since they belong to his party. Is it proper for a Prime Minister in waiting to go with terrorist organisations and terrorists. He should not think that like his government let off the terrorist and accompanied to Afghanistan by his ministers the present government will release the terrorists. It is for Advani to make it clear to the public whether he is with the terrorists or the Indian people. This is more important as he is a man who wants to become PM after election. Tomorrow if Osama is caught by authorities will he put the same pressure on government to release him?

Col. Purohit by Ram on 23 Nov 2008

None of them belongs to BJP. NONE OF THEM ARE TERRORISTS EITHER, JUST FALSELY ACCUSED. They are hindus and I for one is proud of them. So many keralites belonging to left ideologies should check what their left leaders had done in Madany's case and now madany is their Loksabha candidate too.

Canada by Mohan on 21 Nov 2008

Very good points Mr. shankaran!, he (Advani) was the person who said sitting president Prathiba patil is not suitable for the position of president, the issue here is he is going to be the prime minister of India, if BJP elected to power.

keep eyes open by AMB on 21 Nov 2008

Not only Advani but whole world is feeling that the ATS is having no evidence and trying to fabricate one, except some like you.

ATS Lie Detector Tests by Vithal Deshpande on 21 Nov 2008

Today i read in media that the CBI had given a condtional clean chit to the brother of Ms. Pratibha Patil in the Jalgaon murder case-- conditional because the brother had not agreed to a Lie Detector Test. This means that there is a question mark on the lie detector tests done by ATS-- did they take the accused persons' permission? No wonder the ATS had to slap MCOCA, they are obviously uncomfortable with the whole outcome.

Col. Purohit's torture by ATS by Arunab Mohonty on 21 Nov 2008

And the same ATS denies having tortured any of the accused in the Malegaon probe. I think the probe of Col. Purohit should be supervised by Army. That is an organisation which, one hopes, will not be influenced by politicians.

ATS dont get the culprit by Vandha on 21 Nov 2008

Does ATS think they are the greatest.. Useless guys not able to find a culprit..but anyone get into their hands, they torcher them..

ATS vs. Purohit by Indian on 21 Nov 2008

Why is army quiet? If ATS has tortured him, they have violated the law. If army does not do anything to save one of its officers, there could be a serious discontent in the army and ultimately lead to something that wil not be pretty.

ATS by Manu on 21 Nov 2008

i remember shoot out at lokandwala movies which shows the ATS team first on screen. They will kill people in encounter for sure. But oneway ATS should be there. but this case it going no where allegation and counter allegations.. political cries.. no body can be believed now!!.. the congress is playing a big role in this drama for sure!! The Educatiion Minister in Kearla accuses "Hindu Terrorism" the reason why Muslims are becoming terrorist!! Eeshwaro Rakshatu..
