Kolkata, May 7 Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has alleged that the BDO of Daspur, who was found hanging in his room on April 8, was murdered.

Addressing a rally in West Midnapore ahead of the panchayat polls, Banerjee said that CPM workers had a role in Kallol Sur’s death and demanded a CBI probe into it.

“I have some clues regarding this matter. Police want to hush up the incident. A CBI probe into the incident will clear it. This is what CPM is doing in the districts,” said Banerjee at a rally in Daspur.

The police had earlier termed the BDO’s death as suicide. Later, his father, Prabir Sur, alleged that Kallol was murdered for opposing corruption in panchayat and administration. Prabir had also lodged a complaint with the district police superintendent recently where he had mentioned the names of SDO Gautam Majumder and sabhapati of panchayat samity Madan Routh behind the incident.

Banerjee also held rallies in Pingla and Debra on Wednesday. She alleged that CPM was carrying out a terror campaign in Nandigram with the help of police.

“The state government has decided to deploy homeguards in Nandigram. These homeguards are armed cadres and nothing more. In Nandigram armed cadres are being backed by police. Despite our complaints, the tainted OC of Nandigram has not been removed from the post. The state government and CPM are going to shameless lengths to win the polls,” she said.

Alleging that that the cadres and police are targeting even the leaders of Trinamool at the district level. “A Nandigram-like situation prevails in all the districts,” she said.

She said that the CPM is bringing in miscreants from Garbeta and Keshpur and conducting a terror campaign in Nandigram.

“There is no other way. Our backs are to the wall. We should all rise and defeat the CPM in the polls,” she urged people. Banerjee is scheduled to spend two more days touring various areas of West and East Midnapore but Nandigram does not feature in her itinerary.
