Kolkata, April 8 Terming the Congress as the ‘A-team’ of the CPM, the Trinamool Congress reiterated on Tuesday that it would not go into any alliance with the party in the forthcoming panchayat elections in the state.

“The Congress is an agent of the CPM, we will not have any truck with it. The TMC will contest the panchayat elections with other parties in the Progressive Democratic Secular Alliance,” Mamata said at her Kalighat residence.

The Trinamool chief also criticised the state government for announcing the panchayat elections today without informing political parties about the schedule.

“The State Election Commission today announced that filing of nominations will start tomorrow,” Mamata said.

“But we are yet to know the schedule. This is absurd and illogical. There are a huge number of gram sabhas, gram panchayats, panchayat samitis and zila parishads and we will have to file nominations for all of them,” she added.

Criticising holding of the panchayat elections in three phases, she said this would only help the CPM in resorting to malpractices.

Few decisions of the State Election Commission including setting up of polling booths for a panchayat seat outside that panchayat area and restriction on microphones after 9 pm would ultimately help the CPM, she said.

Regarding the Howrah District Magistrate’s April 5 order of distributing more than 1 lakh ration cards in the district in the coming week, she said, “If they do it in Howrah, they must be doing it in other districts also. But how can they do it after the elections have been announced.”
