Kolkata, August 02 Trinamool Congress Mamata Banerjee continued her tirade against the state government and Tata Motors’ small car factory in Singur, but declined to take part in Sunday’s rally herself.

“The rally in Singur is a local programme. We have given them full support. If there is a problem, our leaders will go there (to deal with it). We will hold a meeting of Singur Krishi Jami Raksha Committee at Trinamool Bhawan, on Sunday, to chalk out our future plan of action,” said Mamata Banerjee at her residence in Kalighat on Saturday.

Lambasting the Tata Motors, Banerjee said that the company is making crores while the poor farmers are dying of hunger. Reacting to state industries and commerce minister Nirupam Sen’s recent remark that once acquired land cannot be returned, she said: “He is citing the law. He must know that it is also illegal to snatch away the land of poor farmers. His party is asking the UPA to reveal details of the nuclear deal. But did they themselves tell the public about their deal with the Tatas?”

“We will continue our agitation in Singur. The government will have to return the 400 acres. We will not stop until that happens. The Tatas are building housing complexes and recreational facilities in Singur. The car factory only needs 600 acres,” Banerjee claimed.
