Melbourne An Australian court in Melbourne on Tuesday adjourned till June 29 the hearing of the case of Gursewak Dhillon, accused in the death of toddler Gurshan Singh Channa, with the prosecution seeking extra time to prepare evidence against him.

23-year-old Dhillon, a part-time taxi driver, did not apply for bail on a charge of manslaughter by criminal negligence.

Dhillon, wearing a white polo shirt, sat quietly in the prisoners dock during the brief appearance at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court.

He nodded when asked by Magistrate Jelena Popovic if he understood the case was being adjourned and that he could apply for bail at any time, local media reports said.

The hearing lasted less than a minute and was adjourned until June 29 with the prosecution asking extra time to prepare the brief of evidence against Dhillon.

Dhillon has been accused of placing the unconscious child in the boot of his car and driving around for three hours before disposing off the body in a field five days ago.

Meanwhile, police has said it wants to speak to a woman who helped Dhillon when his car broke down on last Thursday when the crime was committed.

"Homicide squad detectives want to find the woman who is believed to have assisted Gursewak Dhillon somewhere in northern suburbs between noon and 3pm last Thursday," the 'Herald Sun' reported.

Police said Dhillon was allegedly driving a vehicle in the northern suburbs at the time when he ran out of fuel. The woman is said to have helped the accused by driving him to a service station.

Sorry Australians! by Manoharan on 09 Mar 2010

It is very sad for Australia has to go through because of few Indians. Australians like Indians before these Punjabi students arrived here.I am an Indian Origin and I can tell all the Indians in India that Australains are very nice people. It is very simple why should austrlia accept indians to be permenent resident. because of few bloody idiots, Indians and Australains have to go through this. I love Australia and I Have full respect for asutralains because they are straight forward people. Australains are good. They are nice people. One must come and live here then you will appriciate. Australains are good human beings. they love animals, children and respect women.

Bury him by Shaym Kishore on 09 Mar 2010

Look at this now . Indians are barbaric than Australians . Media went on harping that it was a racial crime . Who are more cruel and racial than we ourselves ? The man should be buried alive to kill such an innocent child . Let the police investigate and conclude the case .Media mend its own business
