New Delhi, November 10 A 17-year-old boy shot at two men with his father's licenced gun on Friday in Uttam Nagar in west Delhi after a scuffle broke out between them over bursting firecrackers. The two were discharged from the hospital after first-aid. Police said they had received minor injuries.

The teenager, one Amit, was arrested for attempt to murder and under Sections of the Arms Act by the Uttam Nagar police. He has been sent to juvenile home.

In another incident, one person was killed by his neighbour in Mangolpuri. The reason for the killer spat was the same: bursting of firecrackers.

The first incident took place around 3 pm on Friday in Sector 5, Sainik Vihar, in Uttam Nagar. One Rahul (13) was bursting crackers with his neighbour Sumit (14) outside his house, the police said. Rahul's elder brother Amit, alias Monu, allegedly thrashed Sumit for bursting crackers outside their house. Sumit reportedly called his uncles Ramesh (38) and Anand (40) to dissolve the matter.

After a row, Amit brought his father's .12 bore double-barrel and shot at them, the police said. Ramesh was hurt on his left cheek; Anand was hit on his shoulder. Ramesh was admitted to Mata Channan Devi Hospital; Anand was taken to DDU Hospital.

“They were chharra bullets so they did not hurt them much. Had the bullets been real there could have been a huge case,” a senior police official said.

Amit’s father Ghanshyam Lal, who retired from the Army as Hawaldar, had gone for work at the time of the incident. He reportedly runs an auto-rickshaw after retirement and owns a licenced gun.

Amit is a student of Class XII in government school in Uttam Nagar and the victims are known to him, the police said.

In the day’s other incident, one Rakesh Kumar (24) was stabbed for opposing his neighbours for bursting firecrackers outside his house in L-block Mangol Puri in outer Delhi. He later died in Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.

The incident took place at 9.25 pm on Friday when Naresh (18), also resident of L-block, was bursting firecrackers. Another resident Rakesh, a whitewasher by profession, asked him to stop lighting crackers outside his house as he was getting disturbed.

At this, Naresh, his brothers Vikram and Ashok and father Om Prakash had a heated argument with Rakesh. Suddenly, Naresh took out a knife and stabbed Rakesh on his chest.

Naresh has been arrested while others are absconding. All are labourers. Rakesh's brother Bablu received head injury in the scuffle.
