Kolkata, June 26 A man was found dead in is Shibpur home with serious head injuries. The police said that Gobindachandra Pal (70) had been living alone for nearly 10 years in a single-storied house on Thakur Ramakrishna Lane.

A case of unnatural death has been registered.

Pal's body was found by his neighbour Debabrata Bhattacharya, a college student, who was a regular visitor at Pal’s house. Bhattacharya was picked up for questioning by the police. He said that he found Pal lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Bhattacharya’s family said that Pal probably died by falling off his bed while sleeping.

While the body has been sent for postmortem, sources said Pal could have been killed for his property.

"The injuries in the head were serious and there was a lot of blood on the floor. Moreover, we found that the blood had been mopped at several places in the room. However, at this moment it's difficult to say what exactly happened. We are waiting for the postmortem report,” said police.

Pal, who had lost his wife several years ago, was living alone since his daughter got married.
