At an event organised by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, several women told the Karnataka Director General of Police that the victims and their families feared personal attacks if they spoke out in public against the attack at the Amnesia Pub. "People must stand united and say that we will not tolerate these things," the police chief said, while promising to direct the department to hold an interaction and to protect the victims.
According to the state police chief, attackers will be booked on charges of criminal trespassing, assault on women, rioting inside the premises, criminal conspiracy. The police say that they are exploring the possibility of invoking a stringent local Goonda Act against the identified attackers. The Goonda Act was established to curb rowdy elements involved in activities like extortion.
"Investigations are on. Further action will be taken after checking antecedents of the arrested. We have arrested 27 out of the 30 people said to be involved in the attacks," the police chief said.
Two batches of accused persons have already been produced in the court, including Prasad Attavar, the Mangalore-based vice-president of the Sene who was among the first to announce responsibility for the attack.
Attavar was remanded to judicial custody till February 10 after he was produced in a court on Tuesday evening. Local reports said he had been booked for criminal conspiracy.
A third batch of accused persons is expected to be produced in the court on Wednesday.
The Sri Rama Sene president Pramod Muttalik, despite being arrested on Tuesday, is unlikely to be charged in the case. He has been booked for inciting violence through the distribution of inflammatory material in another district, Davangere, on January 11.
Another key Sene activist and the legal advisor to the group, Dinakar Shetty, who is believed to have actually led the pub attackers, has not been arrested and has even managed to obtain an anticipatory bail.
The police have issued notices to media agencies that covered the attack after being invited by the Sri Rama Sene activists.
Local police claim that the pub was allowing dancing despite not being licensed to do so. A key question being asked is why the police in Mangalore was unaware of the "unauthorised activity" if the Sri Rama Sene could be aware of it.

The attack on women by the activists of the Sri Ram Sene at the Amnesia Pub, Mangalore is the most barbaric,brutal,savage and uncivilized act.The so called self styled moral police have themselves no moral values else the incident of molestation would not have taken place.The only purpose of these outfits is to make their presence felt by gaining cheap popularity and carry out their nefarious designs under the garb of preserving the cultural values.
I agree to arguements like Women right's and protecting Indian Culture, But still wondering why media is so focussed on one side of the issue, Did any one tried to find out family situation of these Girls and Boys who are the victim of attack, Did any one tried to find out what so called parents of these are doing, are they still in favour of rights we are demanding for their children?
So called proclaimed leader of Hindu and associate organization must be banned. If we don't deal with this maniac people now, such incidences are expected to grow. They are many more act which can be used to get away from such incidence. Govt. should take a firm stand on it. If Govt. do not come clean on this issue, BJP has to pay price of it in incoming General Election.

Home Minister of Karnataka V.S. Acharaya told reporters that the attackers appeared to be extortionists. These are criminal out fits to make money like every other political party in India. Look at Samajvadi party or BSP or communist party or Siva Sena or cogress party and all are extorting money from liquor dealers in every city in India. Some political parties like congress have refined this extortion by allowing the liquor manufacturers to carryout part of the business illegally. In one bottle of beer is through the government system with proper taxes, nine boltless are routed outside the government system. This generates large amount of black money, and that is why when PV Narasimharao paid the money to the MPs it came from the Southern states. The govt should ban the use of hindu god's name for any organisation. Govt must prepare a list of Gods name that can not be used for religious or commercial institution. If they misuse the organisation that will spoil the good name of Hindus.

All freedom once given without adequate control goes haywire sooner or later- that's human nature, we are not all saints; so, incidents like these are bound to happen in any Indian city. Particularly when the bad side is not considered and accounted for in time. It must have been some bad effects of this particular pub culture (it is not at all suited for our type of conservative - meaning well- society) noticed by some sensitive people who saw the impending danger from it and the rest is history. I have seen a lot of damage suffered by the families of even very ordinary people due to this freedom of liquoring. I do not, however, condone the manner of handling it; but is there any alternative? Pray, come out with it, it is badly needed.

Who said anything about beating anyone? Why are you nursing such ideas in your head in the first place? I have said I am against it, do you see it there or else you will have to grow up first if anyone. As for the frog in a well, pub culture is what will make you one. Why not use that time to do something worthwhile in, say sports to improve our image in comparison to China? Why you want to go to pubs, because it is a place to hide from realities of life. If you want more, let me give you some suggestions in private to spoil yourself rotten. Why should I care? It is disgusting to note how the State Government is not taking strict action against these so called "gundaas"! The same gundaraj is prevelant in Maharashtra, being carried out by MNS. The only difference between the two is that the latter one is attacking people of North India and the former one is making people to follow there principles! I think, the Central Govt should interfere and deal with these goondas by slamming hard punishment on them. What a shameless act. The TV footage is terrible looking. Their freedom to go to Pub is their business and not the Sena's. They have no right to act in this manner and they looked like barbarians of medieval times. It is high time that all civilized people must get together and stop this self-styled goondas from taking the law in their own hands. I am a doctor working in the UK from the past 5 years and I am a first hand witness to what the pub culture has done to british society and the british family structure. Women going out to the pubs and drinking alcohol with men even though looks modern, the story doesnt end there and it is not a simple issue. What the right wing hindu organisations are doing is absolutely wrong in the sense that they cannot take maters into their hands and use violence. They are hypocritcal in their approach. They should first target men who visit sex workers in the red light districts because these men cause enormous damage to the families of our society by spreading HIV. They should target drunkards who spend all their time drinking with out taking family responsibilities.One need not use violence to spread their message. One can use public forums

The attack by Sri Ram Senas culture cops will not go down well with Indias youth.....especially the first-time voters.Its strange that outfits like Ram Sena in these trying times have found no better issues than female virtue or how they percieve of female virtue with their limited vision.The freedom to consume alcohol in a secure, yet liberated public arena is the fundamental right of any man or woman in a modern democracy.
