Bangalore A Mangalore magistrate's court on Wednesday ordered the filing of an FIR against Union Minister for Women and Child Welfare Renuka Chowdhury in a case registered by the Mangalore mayor, BJP's Ganesh Hosabettu, against her.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in Mangalore had on February 16 registered a criminal complaint against the Union minister by the Mangalore mayor and 14 others alleging that the minister's statement 'Mangalore has been Talibanised' had brought disrepute to the city.

The complainants also objected to the minister's statement that ‘there is a clear communal divide in Mangalore where a Hindu girl is prevented from talking to a Muslim boy in Mangalore’.

According to P P Hegde, advocate for the Mayor, a notice had earlier been issued to the minister on behalf of the complainants demanding an apology from Chowdhury within three days.

On Tuesday, during a hearing of the case, the advocate for the complainants demanded the issuance of summons to Chowdhury for personally appearing in court. The minister's remarks amounts to inciting violence and promoting enmity between different religious groups it was argued.

The court had posted the case for orders on Wednesday. The court has asked the police to investigate the matter and take due action.

Mangalore in moral policing by Subhash on 28 Feb 2009

No countries with religious fanaticism and restrain or suppression on sex have grown strong. Moral policing is exactly what Taliban is doing in Afghanistan and Pakistan. We have got another version of that in India. These groups are basically trying to find a way of living. Even if someone is hit his own mother, in politics there will be different opinions. Beyond all opinions it is very clear that Mangalore has brought forth finally it’s stinking filth lying beneath. The credit absolutely goes to BJP. If they have run out of ideas here are some: get as many Kamasoothra copies as possible and burn it in public; make a karseva to khajuravo temples and smash it off like Taliban once did to the ancient Buddhist temples in Afghanistan; kill some couples for intercast marriages; work to bring back Sathi and child marriage…………………….let us keep our culture and tradition intact.

Nun welfare by Vijay on 24 Feb 2009

Renuka should look at whats happenening between nuns and priests in churches. That is better women welfare, and secular too. How come she is not uttering a word on this ?

Renuka Chowdary's Comment by IRSINDIAN on 18 Feb 2009

I thing some time back she is fight for men to stop taking Drinks now she is advocating for girls to go to pub. It is not clear whether she is if fighting for equal rights or for EXTRA rights.

Mangalore has been Talibanised by Abdul Narayan D'souza on 18 Feb 2009

I support Union Minister for Women and Child Welfare Renuka Chowdhury when she said "Mangalore has been Talibanised." Why is BJP's Ganesh Hosabettu taking offence to this? And worst of all, why is a magistrate's court ordering an FIR to be filed against Ms. Chowdhury? What the Hindu Talibans did was incorrect. We all, Mr. Hosabettu and the respected magistrate included, know this. Mr. Hosabettu and respected magistrate, your actions only prove that you are part of the Hindu Taliban movement. Shame!! Shame!! Shame!!

Shut Up Pakistani by Jamali on 19 Feb 2009

Shut up you fraud with fake name - Abdul Narayan D'Souza. It is obvious you are a loser Pakistani or Indian Muslim who is Anti-Hindus. Pack your bag and go to your hometown - Swat valley - you belong there.

Free publicity for Renuka Chowdary by Prakashkapila on 18 Feb 2009

Talibanization of Indian education system by bharath on 18 Feb 2009

An isolated kidnapping incident in Karnataka draws the attention of Union Minister Renuka Chowdhury. There are many kidnapping cases that take place in various states, but how many reports has the minister sought from those states? This is a totally biased treatment of the state only because it is ruled by the BJP. That the Congress party and the JD(S) have become intolerant of the BJP and are creating problems to destabilise the government, is clearly visible to all. This will only strengthen the BJP

Ganesh hosabettu..... resign by Satish Kunder on 18 Feb 2009

What a joke? People who created problems in Mangalore got scotfree and are continuing their act in the name of religion. When a person speaks for justice then criminal case is being filed. As a mangalorean I feel it as a matter of shame that there is a mayor who has no voice against the acts of voilence on woman but is busy in dong the reverse by shutting the voices against voilence. Ganesh Hosabettu ... you are not fit the lead our beautiful mangalore. Better stepdown for the sake of keeping our mangalore in high esteem

can I by da Punjabi on 19 Feb 2009

Can I treat your wife/daughter to the pub for the evening? Does it suit a Minister for women, and child welfare to rhetorical do slogan mongering like "Pub bharo"? What kinda of message is this? You must be a rice convert with Hindu name!

Think before you write by Village boy on 19 Feb 2009

Unlike Satish Kunder, da Punjabi, you are one of those moralist fools who are against the so called Pub Culture. So there are lot more chances that he will take your wife/daughter to the pub provided they are not as stupid and backward as you are.

Renuka Choudhary - NCW Chairperson by Lakshmy Das on 18 Feb 2009

The hounourable minster Ms. Renukaji should concentrate on eliminating rapes and acrocities on girls in India instead of campaining for Liquor barons with "PUB Bharo" movement. She should have had the courtsey of looking into the recent molestation of a 2 yr old girl child in Calicut Kerala. I think Manmohan Singh should get rid of her at the earliest to avoid any further damages to UPA ministry.

Guitly for standing up for the women?!! by Sujeet Ramanna on 18 Feb 2009

This is the problem with this country..there was undue delay when apprehending the perpetrators of the crime, but there is undue haste in trying to implicate someone for calling a spade a spade!!...why?!! may i ask..its all very clear that the BJP is trying to vitiate the atmosphere with its hate campaign and its moral policing...they are marshalling the likes of the Ram Sena, VHP, Bajrang Dal to create a hate atmosphere in mangalore and in other bjp ruled states as well...that is BJP's USP!!...if people are not divided, BJP will not be happy..because ‘Divide and rule’ is the only policy they can offer this country...now the mangalore court seems to be getting into the act, from the orders of the bjp chiefs from the state to act against someone(Renuka), who spoke against the atrocities committed against the women in the city?!!..she has done exactly what is expected off her to do as the NCW chief..and we are proud of her...dont let the hate brigade get the better of you, Renuka!

Congress is divisive by indian indian on 18 Feb 2009

Get your facts right. Therewas no undue delay in arresting the goons. 10 of them were arrested the same / next day. Many others were arrested. Muthalik himself in public had apoplogized. The matter should have been closed then. But the media and jokers like renuka played it up. More imp. things like Navin Chawla (Election commisioner) went in the backburner. Do you realize what taliban has said today? Do you know that the deoband/indian muslims follow sharia. You and renuka do not seem to mind that. Renuka and NCW also did not accept the report of their own member. After all the pub was illegal. And frankly if you do not like muthalik, then how could you justify renuka thrusting her opinion and asking for "pub bharo". Besides she is a minister in the goi. How the hell can she make such statements. She was gaining political mileage. Nothing else. Jokers like her do not care and infact are more divise in their policies. Congress is the most divise party - religion, caste, and every other tool to divide is used by them.

Yeah, right! - 2 by Sujeet Ramanna on 18 Feb 2009

..the statement of the inspector from the region was shocking to say the least..he said if we arrest the suspects there will be communal carnage..who do u think created this atmosphere..martians?!!..unless there is a furore by the people in india..bjp will continue to abet these terrorist organizations!..bjp is worst abuser of the hindu religion! their true dharma is 'Divide and Rule'..and they fool no one with that anymore either

dumb tamilian by vasant on 18 Feb 2009

You must be well paid by congress, you idiot, you sound like a tamilian.

Yeah, right by Sujeet Ramanna on 18 Feb 2009

ha haa..this country and the whole world knows BJP divides and rules..because the last time i checked Mr. Modi was not allowed to go to the USA!!..i hope you know the reason!!..ha ha, as to the contention that the goons of Ram Sena were arrested immediately, no they werent!!..they got arrested after the furore created by the media of the impotent bjp state government wasnt doing anything..if there was no hue and cry happening then..mr yeddy would have patted muthalik's back and said 'good job, buddy!'..cause his bjp government tacitly supports these organizations including the VHP and Bajrang Dal...and this is exactly the reason, there has been no arrest from the goons of the bajrang dal, who drew a girl(hindu) to suicide because she had a guy friend(muslim)

Don't confuse BJP with Congress my friend.. by Ashokan on 18 Feb 2009

Hey Joker, you are mistaking BJP to the Congress! If BJP is looking for vote bank the elusive 'hindu vote bank' and if it really exists, then do you think all the opportunist jokers in UPA will be looking for muslim votes even for a second? Most of them will be camping in temples to get Hindu votes! Get some common sense or visit a mental hospital1 By the way you use Hindu sounding name Just wondering.. Many people use Hindu sounding names to attack Hindus here you know..

15 years of hate mongering by BJP and there are still doubts?!! - 2 by Sujeet Ramanna on 19 Feb 2009

(Ashokan contd.)..as for your understated attempt at brandishing me as non-hindu and thats why against bjp, also proves bjp's hate for other minorities..i am hindu, and know, that it has taught the world values about tolerance, peaceful co-exitence, freedom..so dont try to brand hinduism with this talibanized brush of hatred, violence and polarisation that bjp has been doing for more than a decade..as these people cannot tolerate minorities, i cannot tolerate the bad name they are trying to give hinduism..but above all of this, i am Indian..and i will leave no stone unturned for the unity of this country to stay intact..and the freedom to express (which seems to have scared you) is a fundamental right that i have this free country..not a talibanized, autocratic, fundamentalist country, the bjp is trying india to make!

15 years of hate mongering by BJP and there are still doubts?!! - 1 by Sujeet Ramanna on 19 Feb 2009

well Ashokan, i would like to know, what bjp has offered in the past, is offering in the present to the people of this country..hmmm..let me see..stumps me!!..cant find a single constructive thing the bjp has offered to this country..and its a national party, for crying out loud!!..without the definition of its hate agenda, they wouldnt have a definition..if there is no hate there is no BJP! As for your contention of 'people camping in temples to get hindu votes!', well u said it better!!..thats exactly what the bjp has been doing..the ram mandir issue..promising to make a ram temple!!, of course only promising, wont really make it...didnt do it in their 10 years of hate rule..that would end the hate campaign, and that would end the source of votes..well, u seem to be quite intimidated by my expression, asking me to go to a mental hospital..

Sujeet is a Paki by Jamali on 19 Feb 2009

Sujeet you dont need to teach us History. We know who are hate mongerers and who are real terrorists. You are an Indian Muslim who is Anti-Hindu and Pro-Congress. Please get lost to your own country - Pakistan.

Sack the Mayor by Lee on 18 Feb 2009

Ridiculous! Mangalore Mayor should check if he belongs to a progressive and educated class or not? Where was he when th egirls were attacked? He did not deem necessary to raise his voice agaisnt the lumpen elements... now he wakes up against Renuka. Basically it is quie clear that he is a part of the political brigade which carries similar tones of Taliban. I hope there is a way to sack such guys.

Renuka chaudhary - a national waste by ramesh k on 18 Feb 2009

The lakhs and lakhs of rupees spent for this woman as MP/Minister is absolutely a national waste. She has no record of doing anything constructive to the people and the country, but only making nasty and shameless statements! Wonder how people in India tolerate this type of samples and still vote for them. For instance, in the case of the Mangalore pubb case, her visit to the city only aggravated the situation and spread more hatred amongst people by her offensive remarks. Unfortunately, we do not have proper and trustworthy judicial system also, so what can we do, only God can save us from this type of pseudo-secular nuts!

National Waste by Bhaskar on 18 Feb 2009

I fully support and agree with Mr. Ramesh view.

Renuka by Rajan on 18 Feb 2009

Renuka will soon be sent to Swat valley to open pubs along with NCW

Punish her for insulting the National Commission for Women by Indian on 18 Feb 2009

When the National Commission for Women, which generally supports even alien cultures based on freedom of women, went to Mangalore, and came back upset that it was an illegal pub frequented by the girls, the report submitted could not support the girls or the pub. But, sitting in Delhi, Renuku 'pronounced' guilty the NCW member who went to Mangalore, and declared the pub to be good or whatever... went on to have the NCW reject the report.. sent her own people, obviously with pre-decided conclusions, and presto, the new team gave her the report she wanted... What a shame to the National Commission for Women. Maybe NCW and its President (Girija Vyas?) will not want to antagonize Renuka.. but, some PIL should be filed for Renuka's insulting the NCW in this manner... and Renuke should be punished for misusing her position to the detriment of women...

Case against Renuka in Mangalore by sunil kumar on 18 Feb 2009

Its hilareous that the Mayor has charged Renuka with 'inciting violence and communal disharmony' the very charge that he and his supporters guilty of. The fundamentalist forces, with the tacit support of the Government have been emboldened to terrorise ordinary citizens so much, that no one is coming forward to file a complainst out of fear of retribution. Even the Supdt of Mangalore Police, whose primary duty is to protect its denizens and provide a sense of security, has been dodging issue and is 'conducting thorough investigations' without a single arrest. Everyone knows what the real reasons are!One can only hope Ms Renuka Chowdary will stand up to these fundametalist forces who are indulging in this Goebellian propaganda to subvert the truth and in turn implicate those who oppose them! A word of advice to the readers: The issue is not about the legal sanctity of the pub in question-the issue is of personal freedom of the citizens-the freedom to make choices and to live one's life the way one wants to-not the way some fundamentalist dictates!

RENUKA'S HIGH MORAL GROUND by B.V.SHENOY on 18 Feb 2009

The case against Renuka Chowdhury has been filed not only by the BJP mayor of Mangalore but by 18 others among whom there are several congress corporators!Renuka has given a clarion call to all " pub-going, loose, forward women" to "pub bharo", even while saying that for her own daughters it would be discipline and obedience!! She has also forgotten the simple fact that she is the minister for women and child development for the whole of India and not only for HIndu women and children. She is silent and powerless against the Muslim youths of Mangalore who are going round all the schools having co-education forcing Muslim girls to wear burqa. The same is the case of the Ulema in U.P., where the madrasas have been asked to send home all girl students from co-ed madrasas!!!

So Congress is not fundamentalist? by Vikas Bhatt on 18 Feb 2009

Then what would you call Congress activists leading violent protests against cartoons published in Denmark or carrying violent demonstrations in Bangalore to protest hanging of Saddam in Iraq? How Secular is Congress throwing out Taslima and Rushdie from India to appease Mullahs? How is Maharashtra not talibanized when Congress allows MNS goons to hijack whole Mumbai for a year for Marathi votes by allowing communal tensions absed on region to prevail? How is different from so called Communal Forces?

Freedom by Ram Nath Babu on 18 Feb 2009

Mr. Sunil Kumar,You are under some wrong notion that everybody has a right to live the way they want to. The government of the day has full right to bring in law to make a state totally alcohol free. Noone can challenge such order of prohibition on the plea that I am drinking with my own money and I have a right to enjoy the life the way I want to.About the Hindu girl meeting some muslim boy, sadly MLAs daughter was dragged out by her father's own partymen - DYFI to be precise and it seems your prejudiced view on Saffron brigade force you mking such a lengthy statement of Communal disharmoney and fundamentalist forces, bla bla bla!Shame on you to comment on a matter without bothering to getting into the bottom of the case.Babu

Where is the big mouthed Renuka? she is not above law and should be punished if found guilty.

Renuka a BIG MOUTH LADY by Gopal on 18 Feb 2009

Renuka should be sacked immediately and she should put behind jail for inciting people to take law in their own hand. She advocated Pub Bharo and Pink Chhadhi Abhiyan. She is a disgraced woman, who has no moral values at all.

Renuka is right...... by Common Man on 18 Feb 2009

Now taht we know how attrocities on woman's are taking place under Taliban controlled area of Pakistan. We saw on TV that they have destroyed girl schools, they have banned their going out in public place etc. That is horrible for woman of that part of world. Ram sene also is acting against woman who are going to Pubs and acting in blue films. Renuka is right, both places are example of invading the freedom of woman. We have to ask ourselves whether stopping girls from going to pub is "same" as stopping woman from going to schools or public places. If the answer is affirmative, Ram Sene and other saffron organizations can be charged with "Talibalization" of India.....

Equals by Aam Aadmi on 18 Feb 2009

Well common man, if women in India don't have the freedom that men enjoy which you have cunningly twisted, why doesn't the Karnataka government ban alcohol totally. What gives the men the right to drink?

Undue haste in condemning the Karnatka CM by kumar on 18 Feb 2009

Renuka Chowdhury has been attacking the Karnataka government on the issue of Rama Sene’s goondaism. While the state government certainly deserves to be criticised for its lax attitude towards Rama Sene, it does not behove well of a minister, to recommend a ‘pub bharo’ movement as though drinking is a righteous cause to be supported by the state. In Maharashtra, where an alliance of Congress is in power, Shiv Sena and MNS have virtually banned Valentine Day’s celebrations. Renuka must instead direct the Maharashtra government to ban the Shiv Sena for its nefarious activities.
